Jomashop and authentic watches don't sell fakes. I think one was passed through there long ago but that was the only instance and they made it right.

That's far from the truth. NO watchmaker will recognize them. They won't allow watchmakers to audit their stocks to even begin the process of certifying them. If you think that's a trustworthy business model then so be it.

If you start spending over $5000 for a watch through them, there's a chance the movement has been swapped out for an "advanced" chinese movement. You won't know until you take it to a dealer and ask them to open it up. This is what a lot of people have run into. Most people don't care; so be it. But you'll never get a real warranty for a reason. If you want to make sure it's real, buy from an authorized dealer.

I think the owners of Omega post here or something. If the number of people praising the brand all own one then I wouldn't want one just because, apparently, it is the most purchased watch in the world.

I found that funny too. As if the Omega is rare or dignified in ways that Rolex isn't.

I like Omega fine and I totally understand the idea of not wanting Rolex because it's such a huge brand and/or you don't like what they offer.

But the concept of Rolex being a starter nice watch while recommending Omega (a far more appropriate BMW 3 series comparison) is amusing.

Tag Heuer is a pretty nice brand that hasn't been mentioned yet. Lots of options starting around $1500 going up from there.

I agree. I really like Omega actually. It's just a style preference. I get into the Rolex Explorer II watches but a new one is outside of my price range.

So yeah, they are more comparable to the 3-series analogy.

A used Explorer II goes for around $8000.

Right under 3k new. I got it off of watch u seek forums used for $1250. Came in original box with all papers, tags, etc. Was in perfect condition. Highly suggest that route if you do your background check on the seller and use PayPal.

Now I'm just dreading the 600 dollar servicing it desperately needs.

I'm a big fan of Tag.

My first "nice" watch was a Tag Carrera Calibre 16 Date.

Personally, I'd buy 4 or 5 really nice watches with that amount of money.

If I ever decide to drop the coin it will be a Speedy. I still cannot figure out if I love this one or hate it. LINK /

If I bought a $10k watch it would be a Blancpain 50 Fathoms Bathyscape of some sort.

I want a submariner on a rubber strap. The expense of a watch should have nothing to do with the strap.
