If regular citizens aren't allowed to carry, then off duty cops, AKA citizens, can't carry either. Sorry.

I have no problem with regular citizens carrying as long as they don't drink. Regular citizens also don't make arrests and don't appear on the hit list of most criminals. I believe it is ludicrous to disarm officers and put both them and their families at risk.

Well if that's your lone of thinking what about former police officers? I mean what if some guy who thinks I ruined his life a year and a half ago still has hatred towards me. Does that mean I should be allowed to carry in case he wants to seek revenge at a Saints game?

Or is because I got tired of the bureaucracy and lack of pay And decided to quit that I have to take my chances?

Neither do I. I don't agree with the banning of CC for any licensee in the stadiums.

Retired officers are allowed to carry under H.B. 218.

I agree but if the NFL is allowed to execute such a mandate what is to prevent others from doing the same? Perhaps the restaurant association of N.O. will make the same ruling, very similar to the NFL making such a ruling on stadiums it doesn't own.

I'm aware, but I'm not retired. I was a LEO for three years and quit so I don't fall into that category but I may still have people wanting to do me harm BC I arrested them.

Get a CC license. You are certainly still at risk but it would be next to impossible to allow everyone who was ever a LEO for any period of time to carry under 218. Even retired officers are required to qualify annually with the firearm they carry.

I find it hilarious one of the most anti gun states in the country is getting it's panties in a bunch over a gun ban.

The hypocrisy of the liberal elitist is mind numbing.

I used to volunteer at the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport. When the Bellator series would come to town, they always fought at the Muni. They had a strict guns and knives policy. Guess what group really loves MMA? They would bitch to high heaven and then would finally go put the gun or knife in their car.

Yes, they think they are special.

I get what you're saying, but based on your initial post that I replied to you were using the fact that officers should be allowed to carry due to making arrests and being on hit lists and what not as to why off duties should be allowed to carry.

Even if I had my CC the NFL says I can't. So if I'm being "exposed" to that risk I think everyone should be. I don't think cops should be allowed to carry just BC they are cops in situations like this.

I still support that fact. I would love to allow anyone who has ever been an officer to carry but you and I both know that is not realistic for a number of reasons. The first reason is that they are not required to qualify with a firearm, a second reason is that they could have been fired from an agency for any number of reasons. There are mnay other reasons too numerous to list. Current cops and retired cops must remain current on all POST requirements and firearm qualifications. Surely you can see why non retired former officers cannot carry under the same guidelines as current and retired officers.

They are allowed to carry under federal law. If you don't like the law lobby to have it changed.

My department requires me to always carry whether on duty or off duty. We are required to take action in a life or death situation whether on or off duty.

While that my be true, we both know cops don't think the laws apply to them and will drink. That is my main issue with this.

I have a question to any who claim cops are just civilians when off duty?

If one of your family members got jumped by 2 or 3 assailants. And an off duty cop stood and watched waiting for "on duty cops" to arrive and stop it.....would you have a problem with the cop's excuse of I'm off duty for not stopping it?

He is free to stop it just as any other citizen is. No special rights needed.

But is he also free to not stop it and simply call the police like a normal citizen can? What kind of response do you think the general public would have in that situation?

Is he under an ethical obligation to step in due to his training and status as a police officer?
