ETA: Just saw this

Uber says it only plans to introduce its high-end car service, not ride sharing, but speakers on Thursday argued ride sharing inevitably follows.

3:09 p.m. Two other ordinances relating to Uber have been pulled from consideration for the time being.

One of them, by Brossett, would have created new classes of limousines, including one that cut a rule requiring operators to maintain at least two cars.

The other, also by Brossett, sought to define services commonly referred to as "ride sharing," which are the more attention-getting and also controversial aspects of services like Uber. It also would have prohibited those services and set penalties for defying the ban.

Uber says it only plans to introduce its high-end car service, not ride sharing, but speakers on Thursday argued ride sharing inevitably follows.

This is why I wonder.

Does any one know if this is a big deal when it comes to black car service? Is black car service routinely over or under that number?

Just want to know if its a minimum that even matters or not. From the prices I've seen thrown out for UberX, I would imagine black car service would be over $15 relatively easily.

I used uber for first time this last weekend in Houston. Didn't find the experience that much better than a traditional cab. Car still stunk of bad air freshener and I had to help the drivers with directions because they weren't familiar with the area.

At least you got to rate your driver conveniently. Much better than the cab situation.

UberBlack is more expensive than a Cab but only by 15 to 20% if I had to guess…so you're looking at pretty much $15 for almost any trip in the city…not a big deal.

That's what I figured. Symbolic minimum it sounds like.

I tipped the guy like $5 because I felt guilty first time I rode.

naa, its designed to keep Uber out of the FQ - Johnny tourist will be less likely to pay $15 to go from Cafe du Monde to the French Market (for example)

I always found it bizarre that any one uses a cab to get around the Quarter. It isn't that big.

But apparently it happens all the time, since those fricking cabby bastards never want to leave the area.

But for my purposes, the minimum wouldn't affect my price, still shitty though for others.

I don't understand how anyone could be against Uber, unless you or your family is profiting from the current cab system, in which case I completely understand and if I were in your situation I would hate it too.

The fact is, Uber is cheaper and better. I don't know a single person up here who doesn't order an Uber over catching a cab. The only time I would use a cab is if I have to hail one on the curb to get somewhere in a hurry. And the cab system here is actually really good.
