Please tell me how this is the states problem?

For frick's sake.

I said IF MAEP is underfunded as alleged, that is a problem. I have in no way, shape, or form relieved the city of Jackson, its leaders, Hinds County, or the JPS administration of the blame. In fact, they, along with the poor communities, should shoulder most of the blame. I'm only stating the fact that the schools are in a total state of shite physically and that needs to be changed.

I was directing that towards the plaintiffs suing the state.

What is so ridiculous about actually looking at the legit numbers and realizing that there is no correlation between expenditure per student and outcomes....but that would defeat your agenda

If you sort the list by spending high to low of the top 20 for spending 18 of the 20 have C or D ratings.

Only one D rating in the lowest 20 for spending.

Ha. Raise their taxes. See how they like that.

That would imply that there is something of value that could be taxed.

It is a shame Judge John Parker isn't alive to handle this like he did in Baton Rouge. He would have people bussed all over the state of Mississippi.

Move away from MS to a better state then. It is a free country.

But if they moved away, Mississippi immediately improves and wherever they end up gets worse

Solution to that is inact a tax for people living out of city limits, but working in the city.

That's just an occupational tax. Does Jackson not have one?

This is a discussion and I'm proposing a question.
The dirt poor are here are fed by the gov, no reason for most to do anything work related. The immigrants headed here, are headed for the gov cheese as well.

Take a look at LA schools. Livingston is the bottom five per student spending and in the top three of performance. Its a dream but I'd like to see top districts, schools, and students rewarded with $ (more teachers, technology, etc). Right now the dominant $ getters are failing schools and special education. We've got to start focusing on the best and brightest at some point or we are neglecting them as much as special ed students were 50 years ago.

Maybe all 4 would....but not measurably better since that average is better than every private school in the area except for one. Plus that school cost ~$18K per year while produces Snowflakes galore. The biggest benefit is they aren't entitled little brats that can't socialize in the real world.

And if your screen name is factual, I am not sure you are the best at making this argument

Yeah, must be "systemic racism."

Many of these districts have few jobs in the area. The school board becomes a jobs program for friends and family, with educating the students a much lower priority. This makes these districts very top heavy.

frivolous lawsuits

If this is true...

The schools attended by the children of the plaintiffs “lack textbooks, literature, basic supplies, experienced teachers, sports and other extracurricular activities, tutoring programs, and even toilet paper,” according to the suit.

then the suit may not be frivolous.

Obviously, the state will blame this on black students not being as good as white students, but this is a pretty lopsided statistic to be attributable only or even mainly to just that.

I think it will be interesting to see what the evidence shows about the resources and funding the state allocates to the various schools. If predominately black schools get less money and resources than predominately white schools, I would be interested to know why if I were the judge.

I know that local school districts are often funded in part by local taxes, including property taxes, so schools in affluent areas with high property values get more tax money. I have a now-hazy memory of a court case in maybe Texas where that was brought out and the judge ordered the state to fund the schools equally to eliminate or at least mitigate that disparity. I can't remember whether that ruling stood up on appeal.
