What an amazingly ignorant broad brush you have there.

Here's what needs to happen.
When JPS has even worse test scores this year, the state needs to say enough. Call us racist, call us bigots, call us whatever, we are going to step in and fix the damn schools in Jackson.
Then go in, clean house and fix the damn schools. Remove tenure from every teacher. Set expectations and have consequences if they aren't met.
It amazes me that we have politicians in this state that are scared of being called racist for helping the children stuck in JPS but will say comments like "Louisiana politicians need to be lynched" for taking down Confederate monuments.
We are our own worst enemy in this damn state.

fixing Memphis's public schools
When did that happen? Just in the last 5 years Memphis City Schools surrendered their charter and had to have Shelby County take over.

We picked the area we chose to settle based almost entirely on the ISD. These people are free to move to whatever school district they want in MS
What a wonderful privilege to be able to afford to live wherever you choose. Hand picking the best ISD will definitely give your children a leg up on kids in the crappy ISDs.
You see how you accidentally validated the concerns of the parents in the OP?

The federal government is threatening to take over the schools.
It's that bad.
It's that bad.

The leaders in Jackson are just going to bow to the poor constituents who want to place the blame on "the man". It's really sad.
They're always going to turn to some existential enemy despite the fact that they only have to look in the mirror for the real culprit. I'm sorry, but buck passing is very much a part of the black American culture and is the reason why they'll continue to languish in their own ineptitude.

Tony Yarber, though flawed, at least knew taxes in Jackson needed to be raised. But he was swallowed by his own.
How so?

Solution to that is inact a tax for people living out of city limits, but working in the city.
That would be great for the economy of Flowood/Resevoir, Ridgeland, Madison and maybe "Gluckstadt" if those knuckleheads will implement some zoning codes to ensure they become the next Clinton or Pearl.

Well, the guy we just fired was here for about 5 years so I guess the schools got shitty after he left.
ETA: I think I read your message wrong. His name was Cedrick Gray.

The SPLC notes that all of the 19 Mississippi school districts rated “F” have overwhelmingly black student bodies, while the state’s five highest-performing school districts are majority white.
Geeze, I wonder why that is.
Maybe if the people in charge of running those schools and the parents (or most likely parent) gave a damn, the schools wouldn't be so bad.
Sure let's give those schools more money, but lets audit the hell out of their book keeping and finances, etc.

Apparently the SPLC never learned the basics of "cause and effect" back in school.

The mindset behind voting down the Adams County bond, per my inlaws, is that the schools can't do shite with what they have to work with so giving them more money is a waste.
It is a vote of no confidence in the people handling the money as much as anything.

In some counties, how did it not at least start off that way with the segregation academies?
It's been over 50 years since segregation ended. That's easily two generations.
Look, here in BR, Scotlandville Magnet has one of the top engineering academies in the state. Yet the school has less than a 60% graduation rate.
The opportunities are there. Many of these students are failing themselves, and a lot the blame also falls on having families that can't or won't properly support them.

I mean, that simply isn't true for a family that is poor as dirt.

Why is it that poor as dirt immigrants come to our country to sacrifice and scrap to put their families in a better position, but so many people already living in poverty here seem to have little upward mobility?
Don't be naive.

"Posing," not "proposing."
Still, valid question.

Mississippi actually has some of the least segregated public schools in the country. John Oliver does a piece on the most segregated schools are in the North, particularly NYC being by far the worst: LINK

I was born and raised in NE MS, and the public education system up there was great. Everywhere else in MS is pretty meh
