Making bad decisions where there's a 50/50 shot of you getting busted is one thing, this was going to go downhill from the getgo.
This kind of thinking doesn't even enter into it.
It's more like: "Who can I impress with my edginess that will take me out of B-list obscurity and finally make me a real star?"

Eh, she did something she thought would get her the attention (and some amount of vitriol) that she has made a B list career out of and it went towards the vitriol side more than she thought.
She assumed liberals would be good with it, like conservatives we're with threats towards Obama, and she wagered incorrectly. Of course, there is a difference between saying something in poor taste and doing something in poor taste, as Trump can well attest, and that may account for the difference in reaction.
Still, her career is a B list thing and she still might be able to swing this thing back into a money maker for herself as originally intended. I will personally continue to live my life (mostly) Kathy Griffin free.
