But what does any of this have to do with Jazzfest?

I don't get why people take issue with this.

I guarantee it was full of people who were at Jazz Fest. It's the opening night of Jazz Fest.

Me neither.

get why the shooting has Jazzfest in the headline, but it is a bit sensational.

Right? It’s not like the fine citizens of New Orleans needs a special occasion for committing murder.

For the out of towners, this did not happen near the Jazz Fest. Don't listen to these NOLA doomsday crowds

Does anyone have the 2023 map around Jazz Fest where the murders and criminals know not to go?

I haven't seen one this year and would like to remain safe and only patron the places within those safe boundaries.

Jazz Fest Sucks!!!

It really does. From the pictures I’ve seen, it looks like 300,000 fat middle aged dorky liberals trying too hard to look quirky and enjoy artists who are either way over the hill or just not that good. The entire thing looks shitty this year

Is Tommy Mandina still alive? He was a client of mine for while when he opened Mandina’s in Baton Rouge. For the 9months it stayed open lol

Word is, the all credit card food sales deal was a disastrous dumpster fire yesterday.

I may go tomorrow and will report back.

Can confirm. Disastrous may be too strong, but it was slow with very long lines. Not a good idea to go this route.

As far as this thread goes, I have always thought that Elvis' song In the Ghetto doesn't get the credit it deserves.

I heard the same. Didn’t experience the issues personally. We waited at the gates for them to open, claimed a relatively good spot at the main stage, and waited behind nobody at any of the food or drink lines.

By 3pm or so, the lines were insane. But I was finished consuming by then, thankfully.

It’s relatively near in my opinion. I consider that area of mid city to be part of the jazz fest experience to a certain degree. It’s the area where people go out to eat afterwards, in droves.

That’s horrible. That wasn’t a bad area.
Sorry but gotta ask this - in NOLA, is there any such thing as a “good” area? Speaking as a native living elsewhere, no longer willing to wear a bull’s eye for my age, gender, or whiteness. Mandina’s has been one of my must-go places to eat during increasingly infrequent visits to my city of birth. Sad.

I like the song as a song, but there’s more than one giant hole in the logic of the poverty cycle he describes - personal accountability.

Babies don’t just magically appear.

Poverty is not the cause of crime, bad parenting and lack of fathers is the cause.
