Guy just said that the plane hit a 26 degree bump and went down slowly

The Iberian peninsula is a tricky, tricky place to fly. I´ve been on flights from Madrid to the northern coast, less than an hour trajectory, and have been in free fall with English pilots in BIG arse planes who didn´t know the wind patterns.

Up next they'll remember a hot girl who died in the crash. Why don't they ever remember the ugly people?

Wouldn't the voice recorder pick up cabin conversation? "I'm going to be right back ... gotta pee" ... seems like convo would be on the tapes.

Ya they reported that the pilots had a conversation before the crash scenario began, so I can only assume that means one pilot is obviously leaving the cockpit.

I was just answering your question of how they could or couldn't without assumptions identify who was banging on the door. I'd think the sound wouldn't carry as well. But safe to say it was the pilot who left.

I wonder what the duration was between the pilot exiting the cockpit and attempting to re-enter.

could it not have been a male steward banging on the door? Perhaps he noticed something "wrong" and was trying to get to the pilots ... idk.

The lack of the pilots talking to each other leads them to assume there was only one pilot in the cockpit I would think.

how do they KNOW it was a pilot and not say a male steward knocking on the door?

Obvious answer is all male stewards have high pitched gay voices and pilots have deep rigid manly voices

They are showing the American girl now. Her friends look in shock. Which is understandable.

Do European airlines have the same rules about a FA going in the cabin if a pilot comes out?

There's an area microphone in the "flight deck" (the politically correct term airlines adopted over a decade ago) as well as every transmission, or anything spoken using a microphone, that is recorded.
US procedures never have a pilot alone I the flight deck. I'm not sure what the Germans do.

Germanwings Crash: One Pilot locked out of cockpit at time of crash quote: How the hell do they know this? flight recorder. Apparently they can hear somebody banging on the doors outside. They think it was a medical emergency and the other pilot slumped forward on the controls. They THINK. Total speculation at this point. New York Times breaking the story. Will post a link ASAP.

Possible pilot suicide as well.

I would assist the pilot by taking my 260# frame and going primal on that door......I'd die trying.

Ok. So everything is recorded but is it protocol to announce that they are leaving?
