I went from about 42" to 45" in my chest just doing 100 reps of curls and butterflies (50 each) 3-4 times a week (every time I ran) for a year. Started with 20 on the dumbbells and about midway through the year went to 25.

Definitely saw an increase on the scale, but I feel like it is mostly muscle.

I am sure there are better ways to do it, but I just bro scienced myself.

Try more saturated fats like lean ground beef. I read that saturated fats (things high in cholesterol like beef and eggs) actually boost testosterone production which increases muscle mass.

Of course, everything on this board is broscience, so feel free to disregard.

you told me that the composition of food didnt matter. That all calories were equal. That 500 calories of donuts had the same benefit as 500 calories of broccoli. Yet here you are counting macros. fricking clown.

Do you realize how few calories exercise actually burns?

I regularly burned around 1,000 calories while training for a half marathon several years ago.

That being said, you're right that most 20 minute workout plans won't really burn more than a few hundred calories. Hence why most people trying a to lose weight get frustrated when their efforts stall after their body adjusts during the second week of the workout routine.

That's interesting, bro science or not. I did forget eggs - eat a ton of eggs. But perhaps I should be throwing more lean ground beef into my diet.

I eat a half pound "burger" on a flat out wrap nearly every night.

It can be hard to gain if you are a thin runner.

I was like that in my 20s. I did not count calories or macros, but ate a lot of healthy food. To get to 170 I had to limit my running to 3 days a week with 3 days of heavy weights.

How much are you running?

I was running a lot more prior to running the Boston Marathon. I cut back after that to maybe 10 miles a week (I was burned out ), but with the weather being so nice I've gone back up to 25-30/week.

IIFYM is the shite! Check out "timbawolf" on YouTube. He's a big proponent of it and gives some suggestions based on what he eats. (I.E. Baconator but remove the bun)

I was down to 10-15 miles a week before I gained any muscle.
I got slower at distance running, but was happy to stop looking so scrawny.

I am doing this right now. Been logging for 45 days with My Fitness Pal. I've consistently lost 1-2 pounds/week. Down around 10 lbs (188 to 178). Sitting at about 1700 calories a day, a little more on work out days.
