A new model S weighs 5000 pounds, goes 0-60 in 2s to 3s, has a track camber on the low height setting which destroys the inner part of the wheel at medium setting (most common on most roads), and uses specialized softer rubber tires. Good luck lasting more than a year with that setup.

I love that in the same post, it says that EV tires last 20% as long, but also only wear down 20% faster.

I believe the article is stating that different tires wear at different rates. But overall, EV's go through tires more often than ICE vehicles with excess weight being the biggest factor.

these threads are weird to me. It's like they can't afford an EV so they have to come up with reasons to feel better about not owning one.

I think the reason you get threads like this is not necessarily a hatred of EVs. It's the mandates being proposed by the government, and the hypocrisy of EV proponents when they claim they are saving the environment.

I don’t own an EV, but every time I’m driving behind a vehicle, big or small, belching out black foul smelling bullshite, I hope that EVs replace the fricking lot of them.

From a cost to operate perspective? They’re still cheaper. It’s not a massive gap for normal driving. Fleets are a different story and the ga is larger but it’s not neutral.

Depends on how you drive it. I have a hybrid, so I can span the spectrum. I can put it in sport mode which fully utilizes both the battery and the ICE to power the drive train and leave rubber on the pavement, or I can lay off, drive like I have a pot of gumbo on my floorboard and get 55mpg. Completely up to me. Car will simply give me what I ask for.

I have no intention of ever going electric, but the factory tires on all electric will have the same issue as any factory GM or Ford tire. It is engineered for comfort, quiet, and handling. Puncture resistance and longevity are not their concern.
Nissan had to completely reengineer the mirrors and the wipers on the original LEAF. When there is minimal mechanical noise... Simple wind noise, tire noise, and electric accessories seem deafening

Theres ONE thing making contact with the ground on a vehicle. Tires. Never understood how this was area of car ownership people cheaper out on.

A few months ago, my FIL was railing against EVs and citing to their weight damaging the roads. I pointed out that his SUV weighed more than the EV cars he was railing against. He changed the subject

I've never gotten more than about 40k out of a set of tires. I don't care if they were rated for 60k. Once mine start rubbing into the wear bar they are replaced.
