The only thing I miss about leaving La is my mom, my dog, some friends, and the food.

But other than that it's nice to be away from there.

I do not regret it because there was not any opportunity in that state for me within my career field.

If possible, I'd love to move overseas.

So it's a mistake to leave?

I am not a fan of the fact that my wife doesn't get to see her friends that she was close to as much. That my son's grandparents are farther away. Or any of that type of stuff. But that only has to do with the fact that those people happen to live in Louisiana. I don't have some crazy longing to be back in the state itself. Not trying to hate on Louisiana, but that's just how I feel. Nothing draws me back so much that I regret the decision. I was pretty big into fishing too. I miss that, but guess what.....there are other hobbies. There's a big triathlon community where I live and I picked that up in the meantime, which is better for me anyway.

Being far from family and friends is a drawback but would never stop me from making the decision again. I might move back one day, but that would only be for money or family needing me. Not some sense that I belong back there.

This is a capsule symptom of some reasons why we would never move back to any part of greater metro NOLA, BR, or Lafayette.

Whoever we return to visit we love the familiar food, patterns, sights and sounds and start to entertain ideas about moving back.

Then we notice the resident “ignorant and unmotivated toward betterment” that is rooted in the culture.

We remember our city and state is perpetually dirty, corrupt, broken, dangerous.

We see crazy overvalued $$$ real estate prices that are not warranted, for shacks and palaces alike.

We love the memories of what was in the past, but not so much the present reality of what is. We gladly go back to our present life in FL and feel blessed.

Moved away 6 months ago. Finished graduate school and I could not find a job in LA that I wanted due to salary, benefits, hours, and quality of work life. Had several options out of state. Decided on Texas simply for the fact that I could get home to visit family and friends easier during holidays or special occasion.
Every person response is similar. Don’t regret moving away. Good and bad with living in La and moving away.

We would like to move back to Louisiana but unfortunately if it ain't the plants, off shore, government appointees or injury lawyers, there isn't much opportunity.

Even less opportunity for our salary requirements.

What an odd bump of a 1 year old thread.

Did you go looking for it?

My oldest daughter just moved back to La from Juneau. She was homesick and missed extended family and friends. She'll regret it in a few months, she had a great job here

I've moved away twice and ended up back here. I'm not opposed to moving again someday but it's difficult to uproot my entire family. I have 2 kids in school and my wife owns a small business. It would be a pretty big undertaking for us to move right now.

God no.

Only thing is that I wish my parents didn't still live there. Otherwise I'd never go back.

Not saying that Louisiana is some horrible place. It's not. Just doesn't fit me and never has.

I would move back if...
- Crime was lower
- Schools were better
- Infrastructure was better
- Economy was better

Unfortunately, I dont see any improvements in any of that coming any time soon. If it ever did, I would move back solely to be with loved ones.

Until then, I would be doing a disservice to myself and my family to leave Texas.

I miss:

--The food,
--The Saints and LSU games/tailgates, and
--Certain specific parts, events, and times in New Orleans. New Orleans in the spring time is pretty incredible.

That's honestly about it. Nothing remotely enough to make me want to move back.

Everybody misses Louisiana when they leave . Louisiana has a unique culture that is hard to shake and the warmest people in America.

That said , I got out as soon as I could for quality of life considerations, moved abroad and then to Colorado for a decade . Then I moved home to serve family that I love and don’t regret it because they are my highest priority and my kids thrived being near them.

And now I tell my kids to GTFO , move somewhere nice, and I’ll follow them . And since we have so much family in Austin/ Dallas - eventually I’ll probably settle in Round Rock / some nondescript Hill Country town or parts thereof.

I left for a year before moving back. Just missed friends and family, and the food and culture too much.

Yeah the deer hunting in Missouri used to be great. We'd take a trip every year. That disease really did a number in the herd though

We went to a small town nearby named Franklin, TN. Really liked it there. I'm a small town boy, if I moved away from LA, it would have to be a move to something similar. I'm just not a big city person. Lafayette is becoming a little much.

I hate to ruin your parade, but Franklin isn't necessarily "small" anymore. Williamson County is constantly growing and substantially more expensive to live in than Lafayette.

I used to regret it but not living in Nola is a dream now that I realize the corruption and bullshite and crime that people to through there. I like to visit and get the hell out after a few days.
