I will say that years ago I helped my ex's dad with a car show in Vegas. We had to go to some Walmart wayyy north of Vegas.

The shoppers there all looked like they could be the weird cousins of Clark Griswold People walking around with crazy growths on their faces. They could film a horror movie there and not need a casting call for extras

I miss my memories of New Orleans from when I was a kid. It was a great place to grow up and settle into married life, even start a family. I didn't know anything else. But in 1984 we relocated for further schooling and careers. Iowa was really different; was homesick and suffered from culture shock. Left after 3 years and moved to Kentucky, which was amazing great and we lived there 14 years, raised our kids. But still missed NOLA and our family, and got home once or twice a year. But somewhere in the middle of those years we realized our kids had broader horizons outside NOLA plus they had not picked up the Yat New Orleans accent that their cousins had. Of course, they had a modified soft KY drawl instead. Trade offs.
Went from KY to GA for 5 years, Got our kids thru college and grad school while there. Moved to FL, and have been here since 2006. Two of our 3 moved here; one stayed in GA. All 3 married and started families of their own. The two who moved to FL with us now live in CA and TX. The one who stayed in GA is still there. We are alone in FL and are wrestling with impending retirement and whether to stay here or move somewhere near one of our kids, or closer to NOLA.

And so it goes.

Lived in Lafayette and Breaux Bridge about 25 years total. Moved back home when given the chance. I commute now 14/14 working offshore. Miss it sometimes but man, living on Kentucky Lake, Nashville about an hour away, Shawnee National Forest about an hour in the other direction. Beautiful country here. I can visit my brothers in Louisiana anytime I decide to just stay over after work.

I don't regret it but I miss Louisiana dearly. Still and always will be home to me. Unfortunately after LSU I cut my teeth in business elsewhere(ATL), and after doing well - and having kids - my stake got placed in the ground here. Still get back every chance I get though, which isn't enough these days.

After graduation at LSU I went to the DLI with the USAF and lived in Monterey CA, several Texas bases, then between the agency at Ft Meade, the pentagon and the See eye ah. My last assignment was a contract the agency sent me to Dobbins to work for Lockheed. This was after 9-11 but b4 the economy crashed and the ATL market was so lucrative in job offers and pay I settled and never looked back.

NY for 10+ years now. I both love that I came here and regret that I had to leave Louisiana to do it.

My regret, we moved to North Texas in 1990, was the loss of time with our families...I should have done better. Otherwise, not really as we have made a nice life and go of things

All three of the children reside in Texas, though one works in Qatar. Eldest is in Keller (Fort Worth) with husband and three children, middle child in Wichita Falls with wife and daughter, youngest in Lubbock with husband and three children.

Though no need to we would not relocate to be near a child or the children, we have our home

Part of growing up in Louisiana is there is likely always somewhere else where you can earn more money and advancw further in your career. But nowhere else is home. It's just a matter of what is important to you at this stage of your life.

Best decision I have made in my life to this point was leaving Louisiana for Colorado. I've had one friend here who was from Houma and missed it to the point he picked up and went back. I will never understand it but some people were never meant to leave far from home

The lady that owns Ullrhof on Snowmass is from Houma. Ever ski there try her gumbo. It's my recipe and it sells.

I lived in Colorado two years and SAN Jose two years. Got talked into coming back for various reasons and I wasn't happy about it with full intention of leaving again. Met a girl, got married, started a business and had kids. It has been good to me and my family and my children are LSU fans but I'm not sure if they will go there or if they do it will be undergrad only and then who knows. But if they move out of state we probably will close it up, sell out and move on as well and just enjoy the twilight wherever. Fortunately financially we can do that. We hope health stays well too. We have incredible friends here but family is spread out or dead so really after kids are out of school we have no particular reason to stay. Maybe a condo in downtown Austin for a few years. Maybe the hill country. Maybe Asheville, who knows.

I had to move to Mississippi right before high school. I hated it and didn't fit in at all.

I live on the Ms Gulf Coast now and have for 20 years and I feel like it's more Louisiana than Mississippi

Bunch of Louisiana haters in this thread complaining about brain drain from this state while being a part of that brain drain.

AbitaFan and LSUNurse being the biggest offenders.

So ironic you could cut it with a knife.

I miss my friends, but my parents will be moving up here soon. It was fun while it lasted. I can't see myself moving my family back down there. I'm not going to get into a pissing match, but we love Colorado. It's a great state.

Sister lived in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Hawaii within the last 3 years. She was offered a job back home, she went to SF instead. She makes nearly double what she was making down here for the same position and yes, the cost of living is more out there but that's still a damn good income.

there are simply not enough joke jobs unless you want to be an engineer or work in medicine, and even then it's not guaranteed and the pay is subpar
