Yeah but I've never complained about the brain drain in LA. I just see that as people being smart and GTFO

I was born, raised, & started my own family within 50 miles. My job allows me a lot of travel and enough to know that there is no place like home. I could live anywhere and still do my same job so moving away from home is not likely to ever happen.

Moved when I was in high school
HATED it..
Still miss NOLA but, I'm happy where I am at now

Miss family/culture and I will always consider it home. However La cannot hold a candle to Texas public schools (DFW area) and job opportunities. It is also a great place to raise a family with lots to do. No regrets

No...
Too many advantages outside the state, income, education, quality of life, health care, etc.
That said, I'll never be a "Texan"

I regret moving away, but not because I love Louisiana so much. It's more of a "ignorance is bliss" thing. I loved Colorado. It was fricking paradise compared to this shithole. But then there was a death of a family member and I had responsibility to move back home for my family. It would have been fricked up for me to stay and give the finger to them. So now I am entrenched with family on both sides (me and the wife).
We joked around about moving away after all the parents are dead and the kids are grown up.

Tampa resident here. Florida has been much better for me financially.
Also, I haven't been stuck in traffic for three hours because of a simple fender bender. No one can put a price on that.

My wife and I moved to Charlotte 18 months ago for her medical residency after both living south Louisiana our whole lives. We both feel the draw to be back home close to friends & family once she finishes, but I struggle with it.
Charlotte (and NC in general) is just better in so many ways. Over Thanksgiving, we were back and took an afternoon to drive around nola/meterarie/Kenner to see if there exists anything comparable to the quality of life type situation we're in now.
There wasn't. There were pockets of nice neighborhoods with big expensive houses, but almost every area we went to had some kind of drawback (schools/close to amentities/traffic/etc).
It was a little depressing.

When I almost left for Dallas, I thought man I'd really miss family, LSU and New Orleans. Well family is ultimately why we didn't go. I know so many people who have gone and immediately love being away. Question is do you know someone who has regretted leaving?
Moved to Dallas in 89 after getting married. Main reason was there wasn't many good paying IT jobs in Louisiana. I'm still close enough to get back to SE Louisiana fairly regularly. I miss the good food, fishing, hunting etc. But unfortunately I would still today have to take a 50% pay cut to move back.

I left for a little over a year, then my career path took a slight turn and brought me back. It's unbelievable how bad I want to leave and never come back.
I love being near my family here, but they're all healthy and able/love to travel as I am/do.
If things go the right way, I'll be gone for good in 2017.

Nope, great place to visit. But also a great place to leave.

I don't regret leaving but I want to move back at some point.
I have lived in South Carolina and Oklahoma. Both drives to my parents were about 11-12 hours.
I would want to move back to Lafayette or Mandeville.

Are you serious? I debated whether to post this or not, but I tried it 2 years ago, along with some family, and I didn't care for it. Tasted like chicken broth with salt.

Every place I live is better - Charleston, St. Louis, San Francisco.

I haven’t read all responses, but I left right after college. No regrets. I live in Dallas and have zero desire to go back. I married a TX gal and only go back to visit family.
I’m embarrassed at what Shreveport has become and was never all that proud to begin with. Monroe carries some nostalgia for me. South Louisiana is ok, but NOLA and BR have tons of problems. Again, no regrets.

My oldest daughter just moved back to La from Juneau. She was homesick and missed extended family and friends. She'll regret it in a few months, she had a great job here.

I moved away for about a year to Salt Lake City. I missed La and moved back.

Moved to northern Virginia about 9.5 years ago. Without a doubt I miss being back home during football season, seeing more family/friends on a regular basis. But above all the people back home know how to relax and enjoy life. The area around Washington DC is just full of uptight, stressed out, full of themselves asses. Got to say that I love the weather up here much more, it's nice to have 4 actual seasons
Fairly certain i'm not going anywhere for another 15ish years till the youngest kid is out of high school.
