No. They increased the prices because it's been the same price for many years, before it had so many subscribers and shipping costs.
You would think this would make sense to the OP.

He feels bad for the guy that is laughing all the way to the bank?
You see the founder of Amazon on that 60 minutes special?...that looks like one happy guy.

To be fair to the OP, it's true that when you prepay for some service you'll tend to use it later whether you need it or not at that moment. And so consumption of that service goes higher than it would be if everyone paid on a per-use basis.
That said, I'm pretty sure Amazon has people who thought about this ahead of time and priced it accordingly. You aren't doing anything for that poor cash-starved Fortune 500 company, the reality is that Prime was overpriced to start with for most people and helped Amazon get people hooked on their video services.

You pricks would make them 2-day something even of you were out of town for the week.
If I needed something later and I was gone, I would either order it while on the trip so I would be home when delivered with two-day shipping, or just wait until I got home and then order it with two-day shipping.
Why would you order something when you know you'll be gone anyway?

It's too bad you don't have a "conscious".

I suspect this may be considered a "beta" move.
I don't know about beta, but retarded for sure.
My Prime membership runs out next month, and for the first time in a few years I probably won't renew it.

You should check on that before you don't renew. My membership renews next month and I'm still paying the same old price as I always have and next year, my membership will be at the increased rate.
If I were as dumb as the OP, though, I'd probably just write Amazon a check for $175 when I renew this year just to make sure I cover all of that sweet 2 day shipping I use.

If Amazon thought people were abusing Prime, they would make you have to select 2 day instead of defaulting to the option. They could also give out some BS coupon like $1 for movie rental/video purchase if you use ground instead. They were doing something like that during the busy Christmas season. The price of Prime is going up due to rise in prices of shipping, not abuse.

You can also "gift" yourself a membership now at the cheaper rate and just make it go active when it expires(within the next year).
The rate increase goes in effect next month...mine expires in August so I will likely do this option.

This thread finally made me sign up for Prime Student. Like an idiot, I could've been taking advantage of this starting grad school a couple of years ago.
Too bad Prime Video doesn't come with the free signup period.

yes, if I'm buying a gift for some future date. No most of the time. I use the hell out of it. UPS comes to my house five days a week.

Not renewing due to lack of use, not price increases.

Do you not like saving money and then have it magically arrive at your doorstep two days later?
Or watching tons of movies and shows online?
Or getting free kindle books each month?
Posted on 3/23/14 at 7:40 pm to lsunurse
I use the shite out of 2 day shipping.
Haven't quite figured out what Prime offers that Netflix Instant doesn.t

They may have shows that Netflix doesn't.

Maybe ordered one or two things from Amazon last year?

Traveling 95% of the time right now, often in places with no or limited access to Internet.

Don't have a Kindle.
It's a great service, just one I can't properly take advantage of at the moment. I'll surely renew again eventually.

not beta just stupid. If they charge a yearly fee for all the 2 day shipping I can get why would I care if they had to pay extra for the 2 day shipping?
