Hell no.
They don't matter unless you are going to work at 6 minute intervals. Even then, no, not really.

Appreciate all the info you've given me. As a teenager it's nice to learn things from someone who has the personal experience

Basically if you want a 160 K big law associate job, ranking is essential. Top 14 schools will place 33-65 percent of their graduates in these jobs. 20-40ish schools might place top 10 percent. Beyond that, only the very top students in the class have a shot.
I decided to put all my eggs in the big law basket and picked a top 10 school. I couldn't handle the stress though. It's not an easy life, 75 hour work weeks, 200 k debts that make it big law or bust.

Is there much difference between tier 1 and tier 2 schools in terms of difficulty?

I was questioning myself and my constant decision making of putting up "seeking advice" threads on the OT of all places. But thankfully there was a change of pace and some knowledgeable posters gave me useful input

Really? That's terrible.

Personally, I wouldn't go to law school unless it were AT LEAST top 25. Yeah, the tuition is stupid expensive, but your chances of success increase, imo.

If you want to do corporate, yes. It also helps with networking. Otherwise, not a ton.

In the grand scheme of things? For example, starting up your own firm.
Seems like it would be pretty tough to start a firm from nothing straight out of law school

Top 15, top 25, something like that. None of it matters to a solo bc clients never ask.
Yes.
It could matter, if you were trying to start some relatively sophisticated practice catering to high wealth folks or businesses.
But if you're hanging a shingle the way most do, and doing family law or run of the mill PI, it doesn't matter.

I knew a guy who did that straight out of school and by all accounts, he's a terrible lawyer. The reason why he's been successful is he is an excellent salesman and by volume he's gotten cases that put him up. I think he lived in his office for awhile though.
I'll also add, he probably wouldn't have been hired by any other firms. He had a long rap sheet and was accused of cheating multiple times. It was a scandal he passed the bar ethics requirements

Eh, I wouldn't pay top dollar for any law school not top 25. But if you can get a solid deal on a t50 school and you want to be a lawyer (read: not want to make tons of $$$$) then go for it.
And in some cases I'll take a 40th ranked school on the cheap over a 40k/year 19th ranked school. But that depends on the schools

Sorry to hear that. You could have kind of coasted after your first year. You had a ticket that many, many people would love to have.
