I did the cutting for my son... A lot tougher than I would have ever expected. Think of trying to cut a rope with dull scissors. The Doc held on each side of where I was cutting, so no chance of 'bleeding out'.

They clamp it, bruh. And you cut between the clamps. Saw the doc do it.

It was emergency response training. Forgot thw whole context, but I guess assumed we didn't have clamps.

The doc asked me a few hours before the delivery if I would be willing to do it.

When my son finally popped out I was overcome with emotion. The nurse called and I staggered over to her. She stuck a pair of scissors in my hands, and I failed to make a complete cut. Finished it off on the second try.

Pretty cool I guess.

What happens to the rest of the cord once it is cut? Assuming they have to cut it again where it comes out the snatch or does it detach inside.

Excuse my ignorance, never thought about it that far.

Thought thread title was asking figuratively ? Still haven't and hope never to with only remaining child , 32 year old daughter. We are in same profession and love the 2-3 weekly lunches she schedules with me for advice/guidance. Wish it would never end but glad she needed me this long.

It comes out with the placenta in what is called "afterbirth."

They also shorten and crimp what is attached to the baby. My son's had an RFID chip in it that would lock doors, shut down elevators, and sound an alarm if you tried to take him off the nursery floor.
