It's a PITA. You've gotta buy the oil, change it, deal with the mess, then return the old oil. 15,000 mile intervals are the greatest thing ever, IMO.

All of our cars are 15,000 OCI. Work truck sees a quick lube place.

My dang truck holds 11 quarts, the RV takes like 36 quarts. Ain't nothing dirtier than diesel oil.

IDK what you call me, that's a lot of dirty oil to deal with.

change the oil myself in the race car. Damn thing uses unicorn blood for oil. Car is making 3x the power than originally designed for. I take the opportunity while changing the oil to look around for leaks or other things that may be amiss. On the DD they usually go to the dealer since we have service plans.

I thought I read or heard somewhere that any/all lube oil retailers are legally obliged to handle return waste oil. I don't know if that was a state law or federal mandate. I know the QuickeeMarts of the world sell motor oil but are not equipped to take returned waste oil, possibly there's a volume threshold?

As to the original question, I've had a company-supplied vehicle for the last two decades, so no, I don't change my own oil in that vehicle. I go to the same place for oil changes, they know better than to attempt to upsell me on stupid shite.

The wife and kids' cars get changed at a 30 Minute Oil Change place.

I change my own oil. I save a few dollars and don't really mind doing it. It doesn't take more than 20 minutes.

I change my own oil myself. I however do most of my own automotive work as well. I actually enjoy it and find it relaxing.

I also know that when I do it, it's been done right and no corners were cut.

I can't even buy all of the oil and filter as cheap as the price I an oil change at the quick lube.

Do you ever wonder why? Cheap oil and filters are no way to go thru life.

I had an ex that brought her car to a quick lube place. They forgot to fill it with oil. That cost me like $4k because they aren't liable.

If the dealer does it for $20, I take it there, if not, I do it myself.

I change my own oil, replace my own u joints, change my transmission fluids, replace my sparkplugs, rotate my own tires.

But I don't trust the minimum wage crack head at the express oil places. I grew up farming and learned to rebuild engines at age 15 so I prefer to do it myself...that way if it fricks up I only have to deal with myself

I haven't paid for an oil change since I was just out of high school.

I find it is just as much of a hassle to take the time to take it somewhere and wait.

Additionally, I rotate tires every oil change (5k) and have increased my tire life appreciably. You also avoid the up charge for the oil and filter.

Don't you have to go to the oil change places anyway in order to drop off your used oil?

Put me in the easy to change your own oil camp.
Also, put me in the easy to change your brake pads camp, too.

This is it exactly! Those guys aren't paid well, many are not experienced and many don't give a crap about doing it right. My mother brought my car to one of those and they screwed up and caused lasting damage.

My husband is part of generations of a farming family himself and I admire these guys who know how to fix everything. The guys who don't know to do stuff or who hire careless or clueless people to do jobs for them have to call my husband to come take care of the mess that has been made.

Some may say that it may not be worth the money to do it yourself but it is not just about the small amount of money saved by doing it yourself, the potential for damage and the greater cost and issues aren't worth it for us.

We have a lot of money invested in various vehicles, tractors and other farm equipment. We'd rather not be at the mercy of others when dealing with stuff like that.

If need be, I am out there helping him and fetching him cool drinks and being his assistant ( and yes, I can change my own oil and other asst vehicle maintenance and repairs.

when I drove limo, one of the pin-head kids cross threaded the oil drain plug resulting in a loss of oil.

you couldn't PAY me to go to one of them places....
