Who here changes their own oil just to avoid the hassle of dealing with the constant upselling at Express or other quick oil change places?

I'm considering it, even though I haven't changed my oil since I sold my Jeep years ago. The last few times I've taken my car in to get serviced, it's taken 45 minutes to an hour to get my oil changed and every five minutes the guy is telling me something that is wrong with my car or trying to upsell me on some additive or special warranty. It's fricking annoying as hell.

I fear for my life when I leave the parking lot. In the back of my mind, I think all four tires are just going to fall off and the engine is going to erupt in a massive fireball.

Changing your own oil is more of a hassle than dealing with oil change places.

Not me. Small savings doesn't justify the inconvenience.

More of a hassle to change it on your own.

I usually spend a couple hours under the Jeep when I do, so the short amount of time changing the oil is negligible.

The other cars the wife takes to get serviced.

no way, man...dealing with some shyster is not nearly as much of a hassle as rolling around on the ground with hot motor oil draining off your elbows while trying to swat the mosquitoes away...

I'm not an OT baller and still pay for someone else to do it. The savings don't justify the hassle

Changing your own oil is a bigger hassle. And how much do you even save? Like $25?

I always change my own oil. I do it early on a Saturday or Sunday morning and takes all of 10 or 15 minuts and then I'm free to do whatever. I know it's done right with a quality synthetic oil and a good filter without hassle from a bunch a salesmen trying to up sell me.

I change the oil in my truck because I can get under it without ramps or a lift. Saves me about $20 to do it myself, but that's not why I do it.

I'll take my wife's car in to get the oil changed.

Jesus Christ. First three replies are what's wrong with this world.
Extremely simple and cheap to change it yourself if you're remotely capable.

I always tell them the car is a lease so I won't be buying anything other than the oil right when I get there

I'm lazy around the house. Hate home and car maintenance.

I've always changed mine too. It's not that big of a deal.

I find it way more of a hassle to go to an oil change place and sit around and wait for them to do it.

Sounds like you're going to the wrong oil change place

I do it on the Jeep every 2 years or so. The generator in the RV b/c it's so frequently needed during football season. Not doing the rest of 'em, though.

Hassle?
It takes like 15 minutes once every 3 or 4 months.

The world is messed up because people would rather pay for something then do it themselves?

When I pay to get my oil changed its literally 10 minutes, and they never try to up sell me. You just need to find a place that's quick.

It's a PITA.

You've gotta buy the oil, change it, deal with the mess, then return the old oil.

15,000 mile intervals are the greatest thing ever, IMO.
