Building a kid's clubhouse. Finally got ours done
Posted by Napoleon on 4/4/15 at 10:18 am170
Way back in September of 2013 I started this topic.
LINK
First response was,
He was right, took me a lot longer than expected, but as of April 2015, it's done.
I had different threads and searches about some of the construction parts. Honestly just felt good to build something. I've always been more or a repair orientation rather than a construct/build.
Started from a Morgan Shed bought cheap on Craigslist and torn down and rebuilt.
started out with just the shed and the pink door, and they loved it, but it was hot and stuffy and open to wasps.
I sealed the metal and removed the studs and the particle board walls that it came with.
I ran power (gave it a dedicated 20 amp service on a GFI protection)
then for the hot summers I added in A/C.
The hard part was reframing and building a storage shed into something that can support Sheetrock ans insulation.
Had to completely tear out the front wall and frame it from the ground up to accept windows and doors.
The ceiling was very tricky
sheetrock in but not floated yet
I decided to use Hardy plank on the front to match the Hardy plank going on the house. but let the girls pick out the colors.
After we got the windows in and the rock up we started finishing the interior.
..and ended up with this...
a 'soft' wall
Ceiling with pink fixtures, and a now pink AC.
I still need to do some landscaping and I'm thinking of a shingle roof down the line, but for now they are ready for it. They get their keys in their Easter baskets tomorrow. They haven't seen the inside yet.

It was under $1k. The windows were from the "free" section of craigslits (they are different sizes) it didn't take much sheetrock.
I went to the habitat store for the light fixtures, the AC is one of my Katrina A/Cs that I had for when the house was ran off of generator power for months.

My dad had built me one with Power and an intercom when I was a kid. I used to have my Genesis back there and all.. So I had to top it. Lol

Great job pops! I had promised to build one for my youngest girl. And never quite got around to it. I'm bad about starting projects and having the best intentions but not finishing. She's now 14 and not letting me off the hook. Her and her sister who is 16 think that with interest and mental distress of not having a playhouse, we should call treehouse master to come in and finish the project. I told them I would compromise and call some guys I know from way back that run Outhouse Masters.

My dad built me one in the 80s, no electricity, plywood walls. But windows and doors. I remember being terrified of the daddy long legs inside. I think it's your finishing touches that puts it over the edge. Campout time!

they are 6 and 8, this will keep their doll houses out of the living room as well.

Holy shite, you're a lot better at building things than I am.

Impressive. Is something like this doable with a cheap vinyl shed? I know it'd have to be reframed at least, just not sure if it would be strong enough even after that. Wires run underground?
