Best router for extended range?

Anyone have experience with asus routers?

I'm trying to decide whether to go with asus or linksys. I need the one that'll give me the best range.

Also, which one will be easier to setup using Mac?

I am by no means an expert, but I have an ASUS RT-AC66U. I find the range and speeds to be much better than my previous (really old router). An extender is probably going to be necessary for me and probably for you to get maximum range.

Off the top of my head I'd go with Linksys which is owned by Cisco. Routers are just a sideline for Asus.

Thats the one I was looking at. It has really good amazon reviews.

A repeater will be your best bet, along with a nice router. I currently use a Linksys and it is great.

re: Best router for extended range?
Does the repeater have to be the same brand as router?

At least an e3200 from linksys should do the trick

Repeaters suck. Get a couple of these (or 3, or 4, or however many you need, they can scale to thousands to cover a very large area: LINK

I also have that Asus router (about one month). It has kick arse speed and range. Was worth the 200 bones. Yes, you too can be an OT baller.

ETA: set-up could not be easier. No disc. Sets up via internet in 2 minutes, max.

re: Best router for extended range?
None of these give you range perameters... Would a router like that spread through 2300 sq ft or would I need an extender?

It spreads throughout your whole house? 5k sq ft, right?

I want one with wide range to get a Solid connection on the patio for Apple TV
