Odds of a 5th rounder being a difference maker are fairly slim. If they got someone that contributes day 1 in my mind it's a win. Problem is they really need a lot of wins.

What are the odds he will be substantially better than the 45th pick? Or for that matter that he wouldn’t be there? The odds are 1 of 3 picks will hit than 1 specific pick.

i think theyre trading latt post june 1st.

latt and ram have been our two best players over the last several years. ram fell off last year because of his knee and we cant afford latt after this year. we just replaced both of them. latt wants out, but if we could afford to keep him we prolly would.

This feels like an unscripted trade of opportunity. You are surprised that McKinstry is still out there. Realize (correctly) that he will be gone at 42, and make the call to move up and grab him.

When DeJean came off the board, the Saints wanted to go get their guy before the CBs starting following

Go look at the Saints 5th rounders in the past. It’s not pretty. Nicks, Carney, and Morstead is about as good as it gets. Not really safe to assume any of those 5th rounders in this draft would be day 1 contributes like Kool-Aid can be

The difference in value this year between 3rd day picks and UDFA is negligible. Anything you can dump to get picks today is worth it.

Don’t expect this board to understand option value.

Thomas Morstead

Carl Nicks & Rob Ninkovich were also 5th rounders. Very rare they got, so definitely worth using them to better position yourself. Only complaint I may have is it appears they traded up before 2-3 teams submitted their picks. Could be a weird timing w the NFL trying to build drama, but would annoy the crap out of me if the team is trading up and still have to hope their guy falls

PFF had him listed as their 5th best corner and #26 overall.

quote:

5. CB KOOL-AID MCKINSTRY, ALABAMA

PFF BIG BOARD RANK: 26

McKinstry plays one of the most difficult positions in the game with so much poise and production. He might not be an elite athlete, but he is one of the smartest cornerback prospects you'll find. He can play in any defensive scheme and is the type of player you draft in the first round.

Nice pick. Especially if we're either trading Latt or letting Adebo walk after next season. An even better pick if we're doing both.

He is the cb thst had to play mostly zone at bama?

Saban’s system is “pattern match” which requires more thought and processing than half the defenses in the NFL. The DBs out of Bama have been by and large all hits lately. Surtain, Diggs, Branch, Mckinney, Battle. Levi Wallace was a walk on and he’s still in the league.
