The hog fan doesn't know his arse from a hole in the ground either. He slams someone for not knowing the dial of the Yachmaster while he doesn't know that Breitling dials and subdials actually are a flight computer.

Jimmies rustled when you slight Panerais.

Btw. Marathons are for bitches.

I love a Rolex. I do not love a Yachtmaster.

Submariner or SeaDweller (pre recent case change) are my favorites. I looked into a "birth year" Rolex. Which is unfortunate for me as only a brief search (1973) shows "Red" Subs.

What are the general differences between Omega, Tag and Rolex made watches? Omega Speedy Pro, Tag Carrera and a Rolex Explorer all look nice. Do any of the above have a better reputation for reliability?

Speedy Pro was chosen to go to the Moon due to its reliability.

The Rolex Explorer - or more accurately its predecessor - was on someone's wrist for Edmund Hillary's trek to the North Pole (accounts differ).

Both will outlive you or me.

Im guessing Tag doesn't have the same reputation for craftsmanship and reliability?

I just don't have any experience with them, and those two are about the most famous "durable" watches ever made.

There's an old joke about real Rolex vs. fake ones: "If you want to see whether your Rolex is real, throw it against a brick wall. If it still works, it's real." I don't endorse that plan, but it would probably work.

Me.

Just new of red subs and SeaDweller. Didn't know of a "DSRD". Double Red Sea dweller. Which apparently has its own site/sites? I guess they must be more than the $10000-20000

That watch is awesome. You're crazy.

I love the simplicity of pam's. I don't need tachymeters or a stopwatch function. Most panerai's are a larger diameter, but they don't look nearly as gaudy as breitlings

Broke,

You need to read through the thread again. Pretty sure you're attributing 3-4 different posters' statements to one poster, even if the Hog fan was showing his arse.

I don't know where you got the idea that I don't/didn't understand how Breitling dials work. Hell, I'm probably one of the few posters on here that has actually had to use a E6B/slide rule so it goes without saying that I know one on a dial when I see one. I even had a Cosmonaut for a while as well, which is the basis for my recommendation against the newer Breitling's. Still trying to figure out where that statement from you originated.

I don't get why anyone cares if I know what the dials do or how the movement works. Some people just have an appreciation for well made stuff without having a clue how or why it actually is well made.

I don't think it matters for the most part and I agree with you on the general appreciation of things well made.

There are times when someone will buy a really nice watch simply because it's expensive and a status symbol and have neither a true appreciation for the work nor an understanding of the watch's features/use. That's typically the person who will post in a thread that no quality watch can be had under $5k. Hence, my response.

For the most part, a watch should be what YOU like and not what anybody else likes. It's why these threads are tough and tend to confuse opinions with facts. I have some nice watches but wear a 50 year old Seiko I got off eBay for $75 almost every day.

I never really understood why some watches are more expensive than others. I watched a how a watch works video one time (huge fan of those types of things, I can watch How It's Made for hours). After seeing the mechanics of a simple watch, then watching some of the more complex movements. I got really interested in automatic watches. I know they keep more accurate time, but I don't even want to wear a quartz watch knowing what's going on inside an automatic. I won't wear it if it doesn't look good, but once I know it looks good, I want to know what's going on inside.

Yeah, some stuff gets overpriced, but some of the design of what's going on inside these tiny things on someone's wrist is incredible.
