Fried chicken in a cast iron is so much better when cooked in lard rather than oil
So true, my grandmother used lard for frying chicken, so good. Popeyes is a close second.

I know it’s exciting to learn about these things, to Think in a conspiratorial way. I have said many of the things others have said in this thread for the last 15 years, but I was wrong. I suggest everyone check out Kevin Bass, and Avi Bitterman on Twitter. Kevin specifically is a contrarian and taking down your favorite health gurus. Search their Twitter, and if you like they will publicly debate you or anyone for that matter.
I think the obesity epidemic is just a symptom of a larger problem. We live in a world of normalized dysfunction, and use coping mechanisms to curb our emotions. We use drugs, alcohol, food, TV, phone, media, sex, pornography, gambling, shopping, and the most widely excepted form of coping, workaholism or busyness. We don’t know how to be OK with doing nothing, not planning or thinking, just sitting, and we can’t tolerate it for one second. We have normalized and prioritized avoiding our emotions. Feeling bored, sad, mad, happy? Eat this, do this, achieve this, watch this, buy this. And when we don’t have extrinsic manipulators we go inward and ruminate on the past or future, or even contemplate. Every time we choose a behavior to manipulate our emotions it is reinforced, and more dastardly robs us of the opportunity of developing low stress coping mechanisms. It may be the root of all our epidemics, obesity, opioid, media consumption, and consumerism. Dysfunctional behaviors can certainly develop from trauma, but minuscule stressors as well. Cross addiction has been shown after bariatric surgery, and if we solve one epidemic we may be spurring the other.

Where would pecan oil fall on this? I use it on everything because I infuse it with garlic and rosemary. Really good, but I was told it was healthy...and it is know for infusing better than many other oils.
Have to be careful when people tell you oils are "healthy" because people frequently mean low saturated fat, high polyunsaturated. You don't want polyunsaturated.
In general, most seed/nut oils are going to be bad for you. Just looking it up, pecan oil is 50% monounsaturated which is good but most of the remainder is polyunsaturated.
In general you're going to want to stick to the animal fats as much as you can. Don't be afraid of the saturated fats, they are more stable and less prone to oxidation than polyunsaturated which can cause cancer.

Why wrong?
Both the things being discussed in this thread and your hypothesis can be true at the same time.

Uhh what? Aren't you the guy who asked your doctor to give you statins preventatively even though you don't have high cholesterol?

I already knew this. The food pyramid is shite and has been for a while.

This thread hasn’t answered my prime question… how many Diet Cokes a day is healthy?

"Uhhh" because he didn't cure his fatty liver. The fatty liver progressed to cirrhosis. That's really bad.

It means shop the fruits and vegetables along with meats and the products in the cooler. Avoid most crap in boxes, bags, and cans on the shelves.

Omega 3 is a PUFA, fwiw.
Highly processed high-PUFA oils in general are super high in O6 and low in O3. The crazy amount of O6 (absolute and in proportion to O3) the SAD eaters consume is inflammatory and goes nicely with a high sugar diet to lead to insulin resistance and CVD.

The fricking food pyramid was based on starches and carbs for majority food

Somehow I doubt this, in my case.
Eta: for example, I'd love to see their take down or Thomas Dayspring and Ron Krauss. Or David Ludwig (esp on fructose). Or even Peter Attia or Ted Naiman.

I mean think of the fact that Sunny Delight was pushed on an entire generation as healthy.
Remember those barrel drinks we used to get as kids during halftime of games? Pure sugar and food coloring but it was meant to hydrate us.

I only cook with olive oil and butter, but mostly because it just tastes better. Of course, I render my meats in it too, so there’s animal fats as well.
