are these degrees not designed for post grad jobs?

I have 2 science degrees

they were both designed, especially towards then end, to obtaining a job in the field

"College" implies undergrad. That's how I've always thought of it anyway.

right...so law and medicine just require longer job training

its still the same outcome

they are programs designed to get the graduate a job in the field

How in the frick is your loan repayment amount $2K a month....LMAO

I want to say my minimum is around the three hundreds. Extrapolating that, your loans would come out to around 180k. Very rough estimate but still. Wtf

I do not agree that degrees such as philosophy, history, poli science, and even biology are designed to "get the graduate in the field". I have a lot of family in academia, (mostly humanities) and they tell me the same thing.

ftr, Im not trying to take some kind of pretentious stance on this, I just don't accept the notion that universities are big job training centers. Most people go to college with that mindset though.

If it was job training, why did I have to take so many English, science, philosophy, and history classes for a business degree?

We need a student loan forgiveness program. It is long overdue.

No, too many people go to college to start with.

I'd throw up if my student loan bill was that much.

I also have no pity for someone, regardless of what degrees they have now, for willingly putting themselves in that much debt.

that's fine, you don't have to accept it, but that is what the majority have become

I'm not denying that universities do not further your education as a whole, but the design and goal has changed over the years

job training,

Is the worst way to look at education. Some jobs need it, but the vast majority are about social interaction and communication. I don't care if my son majors in pottery, just be good at it and be the best you can be.

I'm not quite up to 180 but I'm a bit over 100.

A lot of people with 150k + debt don't need your pity. Many of them went to professional schools with jobs that, for the most part, start out with decent salaries

exactly. if I had it to do over again, I would have worked harder in high school and gone to a good liberal arts school.

No shite, but I'm not going to feel sorry for them because there's a cap on student loan interest that's deductible lol.

I had a lot of friends go to both of your choices. The ones who went to Sewanee all loved their choice. The ones who went to W&L loved it as well. Well rounded people are missing in society.

Had about 15k in loans from undergrad . Pharmacy school tuition was 35k a year with fees and such. I took out the max the first 2 years to help live off of, and only took a couple grand extra out the last 2 years. And the juice has been running at 6.8 % the entire time so that's how I got it to 2 thousand a month .
