I love the snobs that crap on Alexandria but have never really spent any real time here. No it's not the wonderful Baton Rouge with all it's traffic and snobs but it is improving. Downtown is cleaning up nicely with some nice bars and restaurants.

I've spent a considerable amount of time in Alexandria, due to work. It may be the worst city I've been to in Louisiana. If Kaplan was considered a city it would rank lower than Alexandria, so I guess there's some optimism.

Channel 5 tends to have young newsbunnies who are easy on the eyes. They get their first job right out of college there, then move on in 6 months or a year, to be replace by some other hot rookie.

Agree 100%

the public school system is average.

It is not bad. A lot of gifted and magnet opportunities here to take advantage of.

Some schools are disasters and need to be avoided, and others are solid.

True for the middle schools, most of the elementary and high schools are pretty even all things considered.

You will be able to identify them easily based on the demographics of the school, a sad and unfortunate fact, but true nonetheless.

Well, considering that all of the schools are cut down the middle being just about half black and half white...

Now, once you go into surrounding rural areas that are predominately white like, Oak Hill, Grant, Tioga, and so on I agree, the schools are a disaster. However, so is Glenmora.

Central location of the city makes it easy to get to most places in the state in 2 hours or less and traffic is rarely an issue within the city. I can get around town to any location in 15 minutes or less, regardless of the time of day.

Agreed 100%

Is it the Penties that run the show in that area?

So, if it isn't the Penties, is it the Baptists?

Care to elaborate?

Care to explain why Pineville is still dry?

Pineville isn't dry and the Pentecostal church is located in Alexandria. It's not the big church Jackson street ext. either. I go there. They aren't in the least involved in politics in this town.

Sorry but they are now allowed to have it in certain restaurants.

I was just in the Pineville grocery store not too long ago. I was in the area and figured i'd grab some drinks for later. I forgot that they couldn't sell alcohol.

There is more than one Pentecostal church.

Just because you go to one church doesn't mean that you no the in's and outs of the town and all of the groups.

However, it would give you a good reason to be biased.

Okay. You know exactly which church was being talked about. Nice crawfish.

There is so much stupidity in this post and previous posts you've made in this thread I have no idea where to start. As for church and politics, there was only one church in the Cenla area that had their pastor run for public office...

How am I crawfishing? I don't think you know what the phrase means.

I see...

Well for starters you do realize that having political influence doesn't necessarily equal having political aspirations right.

Now it is perfectly fine to disagree with me or not like what I am saying, but when a person starts name calling and saying I don't even know how to respond to that, it usually means they have nothing.

I see that all the time with my students.

So I will give you an easy one, you said Pineville was not dry. I personally tried to purchase alcohol in pineville not too long ago and was reminded that the parish was dry.

I work with a guy who tells me all the time he has to purchase wine for his wife in town before he goes home, he lives in Pineville.

I literally just got off the phone with a co-worker who lives in Pineville, La who just confirmed that the parish is still dry and can only be purchased in certain restaurants.

The issue of removing the dry status of Pineville comes up very often with one of the most common reasons given for it never being lifted is because of the Pentecostal influence in the area.

Care to retort?

Sure. You can purchase alcohol within the corporate limits of pineville, la. Therefore, it isn't dry.

Pineville and Alexandria are in the same parish, so the parish isn't dry. Alcohol sales in restaurants in Pineville were voted on and passed over a year ago. You can't just go into any grocery store or any gas station and buy it.

I've lived and worked in Alexandria most of my adult life. I've been living in Pineville for the last couple of years. Doubt I ever reside in Alexandria again.

Restaurants:
Seafood: Cajun Landing is my favorite in town even though I rarely eat there. Tunk's is overrated IMO.
Mexican: Nothing on par with Ninfa's, Superior, etc., but Sombrero's is the best in town by far.
Chinese: Oriental Wok is as good as any Chinese place I've ever been to. You order off of a menu. Does not have a buffet at all.
Sushi: Saki Sushi by the mall has some really good rolls. Almost as good as anything Baton Rouge has to offer IMO.
American: Basically Outback is the best there is here. Spirits has some good food.
Nice Places: Diamond Grill and Bistro on the Bayou are very nice places.

Night Life: Basically non-existent. Spirits is ok. They have some decent bands there from time to time. Nobody you've ever heard of though for the most part. Finnigans Wake is a good place to hangout and drink. I haven't been to The Mirror Room which re-opened recently, but I hear it's nice.

Tons of really hungry women w children, looking for that next meal ticket. Keep that shite wrapped up.

Spirits is a nice spot for a beer, as is Finnegan's Wake.

Lots of hunting and fishing and hiking, if you're into that.
