that's great and all, but bottom line on why I won't permanently stay in Houston, is because I'm not starting a family here. I'm not sending my kids to a public school where they would be a minority. Lil Klark riding the school bus with Jose, Pablo, Emmanuel, Fernando, and the like. Pass.
So my options are. Live in the suburbs and fight traffic for 2 hours a day or leave. So I'll enjoy the big city and the extra money on the paycheck. Then leave.

Jesus, the west Heights isn't the Heights? Come on. I get west of Shepherd and north of 20th, but there are a ton of nice houses and streets between Yale and Shepherd from 6th to 20th
Eh. Ok fair enough.

I just saw a list yesterday where Houston was top 10 most ghetto cities
It's a shithole but has nice parts. No zoning laws have ruined it

Yep. That is a big part of why I decided to go back to Miami.

This is true of nearly every major city in the world. I was just in Paris and the 18th Arrondissement is a complete shithole now. And Paris is considered one of the greatest cities on earth. Pockets of shite exist everywhere.

How so? explain this.
Houston uses every other regulations, deed restrictions, hoa's, ordinances, Historic districts, buffering, density, etc. that other cities use. They just don't use the word zoning.

I miss Houston. Greatest city in America.

Houston has two loops and is building a third one. That alone makes Houston the best city.

The problem is that if you aren't a part of a district or hoa or whatever, there's nothing to stop you from opening a strip club right next to a multimillion dollar house. Or down the street from it. In fact, I believe if you go look at Richmond in the Upper Kirby area you'll see a strip club mere blocks from some of the most desirable homes in Houston.
It just makes for a bit of a hodge podge of stuff. That's why there are used car lots all up and down Shepherd.

haha the hub of healthcare. If you know anything about healthcare Nashville doesnt come close to Houston when it comes to Healthcare. Houston is the largest medhub in the world.

I live in Houston.
It's okay. Job market is nice, living is affordable even in nice areas
Nothing really special about it though like Nola, NY, Chicago. Just seems generic to me
People here have been great

All about where you live. Multiple public schools (not counting some really good charter schools) inside the loop in Houston that are really good.

Tell people all the time... Houston is a great city to live in. Not a great destination city to visit.

i got tired of getting a shower at 5:30am and opening the front door and getting hit in the face by a wet hot furnace and instantly breaking into a sweat.
