While Houston housing is expensive, this is one of the most hyperbolic statements I've ever seen on this board.

Yes there are houses in Montrose and The Heights that are 1M, but that is not even remotely the norm.

... Ok. $800k-900k. Better?

Of course you can.

Houston is a soulless shite of a city made of concrete built as a monument to corporate greed and a complete lack of anything in life but 24/7 work for anyone.

This is definitely one of the most ignorant statements I've seen on the OT all year. And, we've all seen some doozies!

quote:

Translation: Houston uses tax dollars to invest in infrastructure, attracts business with sound fiscal policy, and doesn't elect big government, welfare loving liberal governors like Louisiana is about to do.

Exactly. Which is why they are growing whereas all the great and wonderful culture cities are struggling. And to humor the specific allegation, check out Houston's art scene. Their theater is a hidden treasure, the museums are fantastic, and there are many other areas where one can find "soul" if he/she had a predisposition to do so.

Some real shitholes.

I could go on linking Zillow listings, but you get the idea.

Are there expensive homes in the Heights? Yes. But let's not act like you can't get into the Heights for anything less than 800-1 mil without living in a shanty.

The ignorance in these Houston threads is always entertaining.

That's not the Heights. That's West Heights, which isn't quite as developed. Yet. Look east of Heights Blvd and get back to me. Living in West Heights has you living next to tire shops on Shepherd. Enjoy.

This isn't ignorance. This is experience. I looked at the Heights and moved to Oak Forest instead. 3 years ago you couldn't get a lot in the Heights for under $300k. Now you can't get a lot in Oak Forest for under $300k and the lots in the Heights are nearly $400k. The housing market in Houston is out of control and has been for 5 years at least. You can show me West Heights homes all you want, that's not what I'm talking about.

You are reaching so hard on this. Just face it, you showed your arse and you lost. Houston once chewed you up and spit you out. You are a peasant around these parts.

I have a love/hate relationship with Texas infrastructure. I love that they highly value their freeways and work to do them right, but I hate the feel of 6-lane divided highways and service roads lines with strip malls.

Says the guy who's looking at homes in West Heights for $500k.

And this statement makes no sense. Chewed me up and spit me out? I still live in Houston, fricktard.

Unless you think Oak Forest isn't part of Houston, in which case you've shown your arse and that you have no fricking clue what you're talking about.

I lived in Houston for two years. Decent enough city. Lived in Midtown, so had a short commute.

My biggest compliant was it is just a big concrete jungle. No views, beaches, ocean, mountains, just a big ole concrete jungle.

Great for my career those two years, after that, back to Miami with the beaches and views, nightlife and food.

The topography of Houston sucks so much arse it may be what drives me out of this place eventually. I can't stand it. It's just depressing flatness with massive buildings and major freeways.

Yeah, if you find cheap property in the Heights, there is a reason it is cheap.

You get what you pay for in the city.

Jesus, the west Heights isn't the Heights? Come on. I get west of Shepherd and north of 20th, but there are a ton of nice houses and streets between Yale and Shepherd from 6th to 20th.
