Does this mean we can finally sign Robbie Gould to play guard?

And for the other thing I forgot to touch on, lowering his hit this year isn't a bad thing (though not necessarily a good thing in itself).
It does allow us to make a trade for a big money player, but we likely just roll it all into next year's cap.
But then his reasoning for agreeing to this deal doesn't make much sense

we have cap space if needed, unused will roll into next years cap essentially washing out. flexibility is key word.

im a Brees apologist too. But if this team isnt making strides then they needed to get value for him. I love this deal too

And yes I can when those people were slamming him for always being greedy and predicting that he wanted much more than just 4 years. There's a different between 4 years and some people saying that he wanted to completely hamstring the team.
if there are really people like that, then i'll allow. Admittedly I do not read those threads. It draws the lowest common denominators & that is pretty low considering the quality on this board

That's off the table now in terms of a trade.
But I agree that's it time to finish the rebuild. Make a trade for a G

So we can probably expect a lot of the guaranteed money to be paid out over the first two years then. In the form of a signing bonus? Like I wonder what the conceivable dead money would be for years 3-5

I feel like this was the same exact deal Drew was gonna sign when we tried to sign Josh Norman.

I know, i was talking in terms of what we thought his previous deal would be

Yea, I completely understand the cap implications
I'm talking about from Drew's perspective. It gives flexibility to bring FA's in when he's on the last year of his contract again. From what his comments, it makes sense if we bring someone in right now.
I just have a feeling this is similar to the Josh Norman agreement, and there is a string attached from Brees for an olineman. At least I'm hoping.

$44/5 = $8.8 per year so if they don't resign him after 2 years that's $27 million in dead money? I'm no NFL cap expert at all but I believe that's how it works.

anyone?
Peat and then Jahri/Lelito/kelemete... i'm thinking Defensive pressure might be of bigger priority.

That's if every dollar is in signing bonus. He'll have a low base

Just ignore it is 5 year deal. The 3 years after the first 2 years don't mean anything. It's like the Fairley deal is a 3 year deal but doesn't mean anything after this year.

So his base this year is $2.5 mil and his signing bonus is $17.5 mil?
If his base is $4 million next year and his signing bonus is $20 mil then what does he even have left that's guaranteed after the second year?

will be interesting to see if drew hits free agency as a 39 year old 1000 yards away from making NFL history.

If he struggles at all these 2 years then we will have leverage to get him signed and break those.
Unless he would rather do it with a different team.

This is a great deal for the Saints.

did you think Brees would sign just a 1 yr extension? did anyone predict this?
Exactly. What crow is he talking about?
The only discussion was about 100 million.
