Well of course not. Jesus titty-fricking Christ, NYC has like 9 million people and five boroughs....of course they have more venues.

and that's what makes it the capital. nyc every night of the week will have more live music options than anywhere else

But that means that the biggest city is always going to be the music capital, which (a) doesn't make for very interesting discussion and (b) I'm not necessarily sure is true.

Il say this. I met a French student couple out in Nola that were musicians a couple of weeks ago. One of them had a Gibson tshirt on & we started to bs. They were doing an american music type Holliday. They went on and on and on about Memphis. I couldn't disagree with anything they loved about it. Sun studios. Gibson factory. Elvis's house and bones. They had been to Chicago Nashville Memphis and Nola. Drove all the way down blues hwy 61. Don't get me wrong that town has seen its better days, but they have a solid place high on the list.

Sorry, but Memphis is garbage. They have shite for music there these days. The blues influence can only be found in museums and relics. Hardly anything comes to town, weak venues. The music scene there currently consists of Three 6 Mafia and Tapout nu metal. Their one remotely redeeming festival, Memphis in May, has to bring in Papa Roach and Disturbed type crap so that the surrounding trash in Cordova will pay to go.

No denying Memphis is a shite hole these days. The legacy is hard to beat though. I've done the sunset symphony several times at m I m. Have some buddies that used to do the BBQ comp too.

Austin having more live venues per capita than NYC and LA means that music is a much bigger part of the culture...in Austin! It doesn't mean that Austin has more international influence than either, which imo is what's important when choosing a music capital. But if the music capital is based on venues per capita the answer is probably Branson.

There's some serious history there, for sure. Its too bad its lost on 98% of the residents there.

No way it's London. Their stars become world famous much less frequently than ours. They come over here to make it big. Little Mix is in LA right now just for that.

Reading this thread I take it most posters define music as Pop music......that includes country, rock and blues. But if you start including jazz, classical, avant garde, Indian, middle eastern.....etc etc.......NYC is the only answer.

that has nothing to do with their actual music scene and venues and the amounts of talent across all genres there.
