While I'm not denying the wealth of live music in Austin (and there's far more than country to whoever the hell said tht), it doesnt touch the diversity/scope of the music scene in New York, nor does it come close to the number of 'established' acts performing on a nightly basis.

With more than 1,900 bands and performing artists living in the Austin area, music has become not only an essential part of the economy, but a cultural essence. Austin boasts 14 Grammy Award-winning residents, from Los Lobos to Willie Nelson to Shawn Colvin and more.

Yeah, you wonder how many of these Austin hipsters are just playing experimental noise rock crap in their friends' garage.

Doesn't Austin pride itself on unsigned bands? I'm sure there are exceptions but those bands are probably unsigned for a reason.

Sure, when you put it like that. But you feel the need to be obnoxious about it. We get it. You don't like TX country. Or TheDoc (who is good people, by the way). It would be very easy for you to ignore these threads...but you won't.

Ah, personal attacks.
One of the key indicators of losing an argument.

Music capital of the world?
It has to be either Amsterdam or somewhere near Seattle.

This is a fun topic, but Nola is a dumb answer. It MIGHT be top 5
Posted on 8/7/13 at 7:41 pm to TheDoc
You haven't proven anything except that Austin has more venues per capita.
The quality of New York City's music scene destroys Austin, both currently and historically.
What famous albums have been cut in Austin?

nola is a great music town, but yeah...probably 5 or 7th

Austin would be a great argument for live music capital, maybe not quite as strong for just music capital.
It would have to be somewhere on the east or west coast. There are so many studies in NYC/LA, plus radio city music hall, MSG, Bowery etc the list goes on and on for NYC

as far as a LIVE music capital, it's austin.
as far as selling more records and bigger pop names, it's NYC and LA.

Yes. LA has Greek Theater, Hollywood Bowl, Whiskey Go Go, Long Beach Arena, Staples Center, Nokia Theater,etc..
NYC has Radio City Music Hall, Bowery Ballroom, Brooklyn Bowl, Madison Square Garden, BB King's, Beacon Theater, etc... (as well formerly hosting the notorious Fillmore East)
Austin has...Stubbs
