Take out that rhythm section line and you could do some serious rap to it.

Now, in defense of the Beach Boys, and in an effort to try and not discredit their incredible music portfolio, I am not as nearly familiar with the Beach Boys catalog as I am with the Beatles, so who knows, maybe I will change my mind as I look into them more.
It will. Listen to the albums: Today, Pet Sounds, Smile, Wild Honey, Friends, 20/20, Sunflower, Surf's Up and Holland. The good stuff is really good and there are some head scratching bad stuff too. But they are all fun listening albums and I like them better than most Beatles albums.

The Beach Boys influenced the Beatles. Beatle Ed(Paul) has said as much.
I don't care what Paul said- they may have listened to some early surf music, but you will hear nothing remotely sounding like they were influenced by the Beach Boys, in fact, you can say the Beach Boys ended up being influence by the Beatles by the time 1966 rolled around.

The Beatles were so big, they had to feign interest in others. In all seriousness, like any professional, they paid attention to what was going on.
Their fascination with Harry Nilsson was real, however.

Beatles were more important. They're the Elvis of bands. People wanting to put an American twist on the discussion go with the Beach Boys.
Beatles were great. Had to be to overcome their pop fluff days.
Beach Boys and Pet Sounds made music nerds jizz themselves. McCartney, Elton John.
Heard an interview with another musician. He just made the point that he still doesn't understand the chord changes to God Only Knows? Another guitarist or musician would have to tell me if that is a valid statement?
Beach Boys have always been hurt by the dude with the hat. He has looked like a guy at a Jimmy Buffet concert in 1986 since 1986. Can't remember his name? And is he the guy that died recently?

That's Mike Love, isn't it? The drummer Dennis Wilson who drowned back in 1983 was the coolest guy in that band. And he almost got whacked by Charles Manson back in the late sixties when he quit answering Manson's request to give him access to the music industry.

He's supposed to be a huge a-hole. He somehow obtained control of the Beach Boys name, and a couple of years ago fired Brian Wilson from the band.

And is he the guy that died recently?

Probably true. During the recording of Wouldn't it Be Nice the professional musicians were telling him what he was doing wouldn't work, but Brian told them it works in his head and to trust him.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Charles Manson gave Dennis Wison a demo of one of his songs that Wilson originally rejected only to later record on a Beach Boys album as his own. .Manson was pissed and Wilson was scared shiteless causing him to move.
The Beatles pretty much influenced everybody. Their is an old saying that says " If your favorite band wasn't influenced by the beatles, then the band that influenced them were."
Brian Wilson was a great songwriter, Pet Sounds led the Beatles into Sgt. Pepper but then Sgt. Pepper was so far ahead it blew Wilson away as he thought their was no way he could write an album better than that. He was right.

There would have been no Beatles without Buddy Holly.

The Beatles, Beach Boys, Everly Brothers, surprise guest in a funny story... Jon Anderson of Yes sings about them all.
Tony and Me
Like so many, all that spacy guy and his brother ever wanted to be were Beatles.

While I agree with you that Pet Sounds influenced Sgt. Pepper, I don't agree that it is better than Pet Sounds. But as you know, that is just like my opinion man.

Mike Love and his hat are probably my favorite thing about the Beach Boys
Adam Carolla talks about this all the time on his podcast. he describes it as if he were to walk around wearing a windbreaker that says MAN SHOW on it.
