re: Supergirl Season One Thread

Superman is the hardest character to write for if you're a writer who tends to overthink the character (which is what you have in comics today and for the past few decades).
They need to go with his being "too good to be true" instead of trying to find faults in him. His surrounding characters outsold the main heroes of the other companies because some of the best Superman stories aren't about him, but about the world around him.
And that's why Arrow, Flash, and (hopefully) Supergirl work so well. You surround your hero with interesting characters so that you're not stuck in the mode of constructing and deconstructing your main character.

Because Supergirl was decent and we need to bitch about something.

Why was there a need for Jimmy Olson to wake up Black in this series? He has always been the red headed, freckled face, kid reporter. Social engineering has reached a new low by changing Jimmy, he is as much a fixture as Clark Kent.
I'm willing to substitute Jimmy's ethnicity if it means that we get a Jimmy who's a man of action instead of the golly-gee kid that we often get stuck with.
There are three Jimmy's:
*The "Gee Mr. Kent!" kid
*The smart but dangerously curious kid who gets into weird adventures
*The guy who has his shite together and is a borderline detective/hero/bad-arse
Black Jimmy seems to be the guy with his shite together, who we've rarely seen in the live action Superman.

I agree that this Jimmy--the black Jimmy--works because he's got his shite together and is a badass. That won't work with a white Jimmy on tv or film because we've been conditioned with the "Oh Gee" Jimmy that is gets in jams and is nobody with out Kal-El.
I really loved the show. I thought the casting was perfect and Melissa Benoist was perfect in the role.
That said, I'm looking forward to more villains. A comic book hero is only as good as his or her villains.
I have to say that I agree with Lex Luthor in that our hero worship of Superman downgrades our own potential as humans and we should worship Lex because he does great things as a human and not some freak alien.

Looks like a PC show for the network with a popular vehicle.

Henry Czerny was just cast as Toyman, he hasn't filmed his episode(s) yet

not really, i mean you think its weird that a show about a woman superhero would comment on the fact that she is a woman superhero?

I really dislike the pilot. It's just too feminist. I gave it a show despite the trailers.
I'm probably not going to watch any further. I stopped watching Arrow after the pilot as well. Looks like Flash and Gotham are the only superhero shows for me.

Decent episode tonight. Continue to be impressed by special effects and I expect the plot will pick up very soon.
Loved the small glimpse of Krypton in the flashback. I wonder what Astra means when she wants to save the earth and humanity. Is she talking about a case of the advanced species burden?

That's probably the central question the main plot will be built around.
And holy shite, but they painted those pants on Benoist in that scene in the boss's office ! She's got an arse to die for.
The eye rays she shoots are the cheesiest thing about the show so far.

I've seen the pilot about a month ago, a bit campy but reminded me of Lois and Clark back in the day. Solid pilot and yeah, Supergirl is cute as hell.
Speaking of which - was that Dean Cain as either Pa Kent or Supergirl's step dad? (can't remember which). It sure looked like him.

That was a WTF moment.
Were those yoga pants at the office? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

No, they were some a pair of slacks of some kind. Although, as much as they hugged that arse, they may as well have been yoga pants.
I finally Googled her fappening stuff. When I saw that she was the chick that was in I believe the second or third season of Homeland that was standing topless as she was interviewed to be in that Saudi prince's Harem, I remember pausing the DVD to get a good look at those tits.
The more hardcore pics they had in the fappening really don't look like her.

Are they planning on introducing Superman at all? I just don't understand why he wouldn't be there helping her when she's going up against their own family from Krypton.
And what's with all the pro-nouns? Just call him Clark for god sakes.

They did. They even referred to him as Superman at one point. They just use the pronouns more often.

I mean the personal conversations between Kara and Jimmy.
Or does Jimmy not know he is Clark?
