All more talented than the cast they have and I think any four

McKinnon has a great claim to most talented female to appear on SNL. She'll start branching out into movies now. Seems like a perfect casting.

McCarthy is now a bankable star in Hollywood (which is all that matters to studio heads)

Jones I totally understand the concern

My interpretation of the film involves an Asian transgender male, an African American bisexual female, an Iranian hermaphrodite, and an asexual Hispanic female.

All of which have to fight the ghost of hitler

My issue is with Jones and McCarthy. I don't find either of them to be funny even in the least. McCarthy is absolutely repulsively crass and has only one trick in the bag: physical shock humor, and her shtick was old 4 years ago. It's tired, ancient, over-exposed, and repugnant now. Jones is unproven and is rarely, if ever, actually funny on SNL. She is another one trick pony: angry minority. She has shown no range to date in any of her comedy. It's like she's Chris Rock + Lewis Black - any actually funny jokes or witty observations.

I'm interested to see what McKinnon does with the roll. She's pretty hilarious on SNL and has done really well in her own right without Wiig there and is currently the second funniest woman on the show (Cecily Strong is #1). Wiig is another solid casting slam dunk.

My issue isn't that this is an all women version, it's just that I really really really hate half of the cast. Seriously, Lisa Lampinelli would almost be an upgrade over those two.

Cecily Strong isn't as bad as Leslie Jones but she's in my list as one of the worst cast members ever on SNL and I cannot for the life of me understand this board's obsession with her.

that really isn't true.

the bulk of her humor in comedies comes from being angry with a foul mouth.

she doesn't do all that much physical comedy TBH.

Have you ever watched any Weekend Update sketches with her playing "One Dimensional Female Character From A Male Driven Comedy" or "That Girl I Never Should Have Started A Conversation With at The Party". She's one of my favorite cast members right now. It probably goes:
1. Jay Pharoh
2. Bobby Moynihan
3. Cecily Strong
4. Beck Bennett
5. Kate McKinnon
6. Pete Davison
7. Kyle Mooney
8. Kenan Thompson
9. Taran Killam
10. Vanessa Bayer

It's not likely that will happen, but even if it's utter shite, the critics won't rip it like they should.

Taran that low? Without him and McKinnon the last two or three years the show would've cratered completely

I'd be fine if SNL was him, Moynihan, McKinnon & Strong + Mooney & Bennett videos

Yes. And I haven't laughed once at either of them. I don't even see how that stupid drunk chick character is funny.

Bobby
Kate
Kenan

She's not terrible, but wow.

Eh they all start. Few actually succeed.

I'll say McKinnon isn't bad casting, just unproven. Stick her with 3 from the list and yeah, I could see it.

There's only one "star" in the cast...

McCarthy is now a bankable star in Hollywood (which is all that matters to studio heads)

Loosely. Bankable is about all she's got. She isn't funny. And she's been less bankable over time anyways.

I agree in part. Doesn't make her clever, good casting, or someone that can do a female version of the film justice.

It's neither. With all the positive buzz got Spy is sitting at $109 million. That isn't really THAT good by today's standards. Sure it was profitable, but studios want a lot more than that.

Of course not, and that's not what I mean. McCarthy is a one trick pony. We all know what she's going to do in the film, and where she's going to get her comedy. And it isn't funny. Wiig and/or McKinnon may be funny, and the movie might benefit from that.

Most people agree:
The film has a chance to make money
The film has a chance however large or small, to be funny

No one has seen the movie, it's impossible to predict the quality. However, talking about Jones and McCarthy, how they will be "funny," is kind of easy and what worries most. That and Feig's kind of one note comedy.

It seems like people are super defensive of this film being talked about before it's released. We do this all the time here. Why are we so sensitive about this film?

Like all of these other remakes, it is going to suck serious arse. Whatever happened to originality in movies, music etc? It seems to just be recycled crap these days.
