if they did a remake/reboot and wig was cast, nobody would have freaked out
going ALL female and casting those 2 females in particular is sending "hack" signals. add in the writer and director and you triple down on it
if they reboot this franchise with kevin james as "the fat guy" people would be having the same reactions

i don't get people acting like this kills their childhood, but at the same time, i don't see how people are being woefully ignorant to the gimmick/hack nature of the whole thing. there is nothing wrong with pointing that out as a criticism
it's not misogyny to point out an example of using women as nothing more than a gimmick. that's pretty feminist in the classical sense

quote:Exactly. I'm just judging the movie for what I know about it as of now. I love Ghostbusters and I had hope that they were going to do something I would enjoy, instead I get this shite. That's what pisses me off. People seem to have a hard time grasping that for some reason.

ETA: Obviously it will not RUIN my childhood. I just hate that this piece of shite is getting made.

it would be difficult to get good guys in there b/c our top shelf comic actors play idiots, like seth rogan and jonah hill
kevin james, seth rogan, channing tatum, harold, and kumar

This is correct.
And really good comparison.

It's not so much them being women as it is the women who were cast.
I get that but I just happen to find all of the ones casted to be funny so that's less of a concern for me.

Yeah it's ridiculous to hear this 'ruining my childhood' and 'pc' shite every time some one posts about the movie. If it had all men, it's still a movie trading on your nostalgia to replicate something that it isn't likely to match anyway.
my thoughts exactly. Hollywood will continue to do this with generally unfavorable results because well why not keep trying the same well with brand names.
This keeps being an outlet for people to shite on women in comedy.

But you realize everything that caused people to enjoy Ghostbusters that has ever came out drastically different from anything and everything any of these actors have done.
I encourage you to watch the original Ghostbusters, and see if you think it needed constant over the type comedy and screaming.
DR.Spengler-
Played by Harold Ramis (RIP )
Played a convincing role as one of the brains of the group, and most of his dialogue was discussing the scientific aspects of the Ghostbusters operation, but did have his few moments where he would provide comedy (very subtle comedy I might add)
Which one of these females is going to be the brains?
DR. Raymond Stantz
Played by Dan Akroyd
Also played the brains of the group, and also was very subtly comical, and had many serious moments where he'd discuss the "parapsychology" of the paranormal moments.
I simply cannot imagine which of these women would be a convincing "brain" of the group.
I mean geez, all I can think of is a bunch of screaming ( not eeks,) women.
Another question I have. How are they going to explain the entire group being women? No men applied? The males were too scared?
Posted on 8/3/15 at 12:31 am to LfcSU3520
I totally get that it might end up shitty because of who was casted but I'm not excited about it because it's women, I'm excited because of who the women are (ones I happen to find funny). I don't think there are many men in comedy right now who I would like to see in this movie
Most comedies coming out now are pretty shite because they keep using the same 'bankable' names who run out the same schtick over and over again. Hollywood is so scared to try new names on larger budget movies like this that it feels like they're destined to fail because of it.
so this very well may suck but at least it might suck on its own terms which I'm ok with

I see your point but of course it doesn't. But you're not remaking the same movie. You can't.
Comedy tastes change with new generations so what worked in the past won't necessarily work now.

your brain can't conceive of two of the best SNL character portrayers of all time (Wiig, McKinnon) playing a smart person?

you serious? Other than one guy, nobody applied in the first one either. You could literally run the same story.

Even I I take this as true, the other half of the cast of this movie contains the undisputed worst snl cast member of all time, also worse than any MadTV cast member, and adds in one dimensional fatty doodoo.

you find leslie jones funny?
i'm pretty forgiving with standup and i had to turn her standup off about 10 minutes in

Leslie Jones is awful, her and McCarthy being in a Ghostbusters movie makes me sick. The original is a classic that I have loved since my childhood. I hate to see it's name dragged through the mud with this "reboot".

Is Thor really going to play the Janine role?

And btw, casting a token black chick so as to not be racist actually makes them racist.
