re: Farm worker shortages reduce produce production by $3.1 billion a year - brodeo
It isn't like we can just wipe it out and still survive.
Well, here's what will happen: To avoid high labor prices, agricultural work will move to areas with cheaper labor to keep prices constant. OR Prices for food will rise as farms go out of business, causing a shortage....

re: Farm worker shortages reduce produce production by $3.1 billion a year - brodeo
Well then, it sounds like you have an unsustainable business model that is only profitable off the backs of illegal seasonal labor. That means you need to either innovate to find a solution whereby you can get greater productivity out of fewer workers (allowing you to pay more per worker and not ha...

re: Jimmy Carter reveals he has cancer in liver and "other parts" of his body - brodeo
There are few former politicians that I respect. There are even fewer that I legitimately think are great people. Jimmy Carter is an exceptionable human being, and I legitimately believe that he will go to Heaven, unlike nearly every other politician in history. While his tenure as president was ...

re: Farm worker shortages reduce produce production by $3.1 billion a year - brodeo
Sounds like if you payed more than they were making in Welfare benefits, they would work for you instead. The issue is both on the pay side and the benefits side. Right now, the benefits outweigh the pay, so people choose not to work at all rather than work those difficult jobs. If the benefits w...

re: Kasich Kryptonite - Medicaid Expansion under Obamacare - brodeo
it's costed way more than estimated. The people may be getting better care, but the state is going to be seeing lots and lots of red in the near future if something isn't done to address the spiraling costs....

re: Echelon Insights Poll - brodeo
Sorry, I meant McCain. Rasmussen polls from July-August of 2007 had Huckabee at 3%. He almost won the nomination. Santorum was at (or around) 1% at this time in 2011 and came in second. We're a long way from the Republican Convention. Anything can happen....

re: For Those Still Saying Bush is Inevitable, Which Early State Does He Win? - brodeo
He doesn't win early. He just consistently polls in the top 3 while a different candidate wins each early state, and then Jeb sweeps Super Tuesday. At that point, it's all over but the crying. However, I don't think Jeb will be the nominee. I think the establishment will coalesce around a sing...
I like Carson but I thought he had a lackluster performance in the debate, glad to see many are looking beyond that night.
With Carson, you had to look past "how" he spoke and listen to "what" he said. His answers were generally very thurough yet concise, on topic, and filled with...

re: Rand Paul Speaks @ Politics and Eggs - brodeo
Agreed. GOP donors sent a message to the various candidates "Take Trump Out". The idea was that if anyone could do so, they would be rewarded with lots of money in their campaigns and PACS. Paul's campaign has been starving on the vine with literally zero positive media attention for nearly an en...

re: Echelon Insights Poll - brodeo
Why are Huckabee, Paul, Christie, Jindal, Perry, Graham, Pataki, Gilmore and Santorum even still running? They have as much chance as I do of getting the nomination. Why waste their time, energy an dmoney?
Huckabee and Paul are still in because they have dedicated donor bases that ...

re: Rand Paul Speaks @ Politics and Eggs - brodeo
There are actually 2 very common ways to kill a campaign: the podium and the darkness. The podium: the media hits you with an all out blitz, days or weeks in a row of non-stop coverage, dredging up literally every possible scandal, parsing every word to turn it into something insensitive and then...

re: Why the US middle class has been doing better than the data suggests - brodeo
Maybe it has to deal with the higher percentage of dual income vs single income families now vs in 1973? :dunno: Families can afford bigger houses and take home more money, but both parents are breadwinners rather than just one as in the past....
2) we pull out, and try to as best we can set up a situation that will keep it stable. But Personally I think the way it's set up over there it won't stay stable, it needs to go into chaos before recovering.
This is my opinion. The Middle East is set up in an unsustainable manner...

re: Spinoff: why aren't any other dem's running? - brodeo
Better question would be, why is the GOP mudding up their field with a bunch of folks who don't have any chance?
Because the GOP isn't united. The leadership of the party has lost control over 2/3 of their constituents. Those constituents sense weakness and are rising up in drov...
Exactly. It started with IKE and continued with every president after. Though Carter is probably the one who really fricked it up the most.
Wilson, Truman, and FDR all had their hands in it as well....
