I thought that Orson Scott Card said he didn't want the brother/sister scheming involved in the movie. I know he didnt write the screenplay, but I could have sworn that I read somewhere that he was very instrumental in the adaptation.

To me the movie missed ender's frustration throughout the process. When Dragon faces 2 armies in the battle and he let's bean go through the crazy strategy it's that Ender has given up and doesn't care anymore. Likewise in the final battle, Ender doesn't care if he wins or loses he goes for broke because he's done. The movie doesn't show this at all.
Also Ender was supposed to be the runt of the group, that's what made his brilliance stand out more. He was only intellectually / tactically superior to everyone not physically better. The movie Bonezo fight was stupid because they made Bonezo into a punchline. Bonezo would have towered over Ender hence Ender's tactics of goading Bonezo into a one on one fight, soaping up turning up the steam, etc made him superior to Bonezo.
He found it on the planet that he and valentine founded and which Ender was governor.

Book was great, movie was terrible in comparison. And I'm typically easy to please

Of course the book was better. Movies always have to omit a lot. But the movie was not at all bad.

I had not read the book prior to watching the movie and I enjoyed it. It seemed like there wasn't much of a story between the initial invasion and the current time. I didn't understand why he was upset with killing them all.

If you read the books, then average at best all the way to terrible.
If you haven't read the books, then average up to terrific.

There was just too much subject matter to put into a 2 hour movie which flew by. I don't know what people were expecting them to do? Make a 3 hour LOTR movie?
Overreaction to hating the movie is a little elitist.
If anything, they made the movie compelling for non-book readers and will get some people to read the OSC version based on word of mouth on how great the book is.
Yeah, I don't really get the hate either. If you hate the movie because you were expecting it to be a perfect adaptation of the book, that's your fault.

I didn't expect a perfect adaptation, but I wanted it to at least be like the books.

There was a lot of stuff missing out of the Battle School part, a pretty good chunk of meat from the book. So yeah, the movie lost out on a lot of character development.
Bottom line is, you'll never understand the story unless you read the book. I still think it's a fine standalone movie.

My main complaint was that Bean is the second (at absolute worst 4th) most important character in the whole Ender Saga and they just wasted him. I don't know how anyone planned to turn the series into a franchise with that version of Bean as the jumping off point.
There's too much material for a single movie. There are two whole books just dedicated to roughly the story of Ender's War. Of course the book is more fleshed out.
I still thought the movie was very enjoyable.

Some of the things they left off actually make me feel that a movie of Ender's Shadow would be more successful than it would have if they had focused a lot on Bean in the Ender's Game movie.

That's how i feel. I love the book, but I didn't expect a visual re-telling of the books so I thought the movie was pretty good.
