I watched it on the plane coming back from Europe.

I thought is was a terrific movie - I have always loved science fiction/futurist movies and I thought it was an interesting, creative, compelling storyline.

I knew nothing about the story before watching the movie - had not read the books nor did I even know the summary of what the movie was about. I think that actually made the viewing experience better for me.

IMDB seems to overall be favorable to it, but the reviews are all over the place. I know it struggled in the box office relative to the budget, but I came away hoping that the quintet continues.

Just to be a Debbie Downer, I have to come into all these threads and make it known that I thought it was top 3 worst movies I've ever seen.

Then again, I didn't go in as a Hodor.

Trust me, it did.

The movie was very rushed compared to the book, and they left out so many bad-arse scenes that I was hoping for. There was so much more at the Battle School.

I'm not normally a "hurr durr the movie sucked compared to the book" guy but in this case, the movie sucked compared to the book.

There was way more to the book in general. I found the movie was too rushed. Seemed more like a montage than telling the story with how rushed it was. We just get a glimpse of what's going on them bam it jumps forward.

I have read some of the books in the series and enjoyed the movie for what it was. I really liked Butterfield as Ender. I'm glad they didn't tone down the brutality of the kids as much as I was expecting them to.

There was just too much subject matter to put into a 2 hour movie which flew by. I don't know what people were expecting them to do? Make a 3 hour LOTR movie?

Overreaction to hating the movie is a little elitist.

If anything, they made the movie compelling for non-book readers and will get some people to read the OSC version based on word of mouth on how great the book is.

I would have loved to have seen more at Battle School. I found that evolution of Ender to be very interesting.

It seemed rushed to get to him being Commander and there needed to be more time to show his growth from yellow to green to dragon, etc.

Seems like the books might be worth a read. I just hope another movie is made as I like the premise and it seems like a unique storyline (which for me is a major hurdle for most movies these days).

I agree - the problem is that the book had so much in the story, that you could never fit it all into 1 movie, but it didn't quite have enough to fit into two movies.

for that they were able to do, I thought they did pretty well. Ender's Game is my wife's favorite book and she reads it often, and even she thought they did a pretty good job.

I have not read the books either and found the movie very entertaining. It was a little disjointed and the story was rushed at times. Overall it was good though.

***spoilers***

Kind of hard to believe that they had that base there for years and the whole time a queen wasn't ten miles from them.

Book was great and in no way could be made into a two hour movie. So in that way, it sucked. My wife watched it with me and had never read the books and was fairly entertained.

I think in the book, he found it on another planet. It's been years, though. I might be wrong.

I am as big an Ender's Game fan as there is, and I love the books.

I thought the movie was fine, considering how difficult it is to adapt it to the screen.

My only complaint is that the movie felt rushed. It had a pacing problem.

Other than that, good movie.

Friend of mine has read that book easily double digit times, and he walked out with about 30 minutes left. He hated everything about it, especially the terrible pre teen romance.

Never read the book. I did find it rushed though in how quickly he went from cadet to commander. I figured a lot had to have been left out to adapt to screen. It was a good movie and my kids have watched it several times on Netflix. Once was enough for me.

It was barely even a romance...they never even kissed. I took it as much about Ender continuing to bond with each new team in a new way. Salamander was not welcoming and she was the only bright spot for him to hold onto. The same role Bean played on the yellow team.

Yes, the romance is flirting, but it wasn't overkill.

Dont ever read the books then. It was a poor adaptation, not so much in its execution, but in the fact that they kinda missed the central point of the novel. If you read it, and it's very much worth the read, youll change your mind.

Among many things, it wasnt THAT Ender was winning every battle, its more important HOW he was winning every batte.

I haven't seen it yet. Read the main books (the author went a little overboard with sequels) but I much preferred Speaker of the Dead to Ender's Game. SotD is a much harder movie to film though so I doubt we ever see it.

Ender's Game is sooooo much different in tone and much less adult (dramatic) in nature compared to the latter books. You deal with an older Ender in the later ones as he lives with his actions in (almost) annihilating an entire race.

The Shadow books (about Bean - who is supposed to be just as or smarter than Ender) are better for those looking for similar storytelling. As for the romance, it didn't bother me, for I didn't see a future with it - for in my mind, I know Petra ends up with Bean . . . eventually.

For a movie, if made, they had mentioned inventing another story between Ender's Game and Speaker, just to bridge the different aspects of the story. I just don't see it working.

Some of these films are so difficult to make and will never satisfy everyone. Sorta like the Foundation series - I know they making them, but to me, you can't make them without first making the old Elijay Bailey detective novels (which I think would be awesome on film) and how one character from those evolved into a central character in the Foundation series. It would be EPIC!!!

I just realized how nerdy I was/am. I loved these stories - they became a major part of me "just reading for myself" as a teen and a man in his early 20s.

I thought the movie sucked also because the movie missed on nearly all aspects of the book. It hardly focused on Enders internal struggles through training, missed on the brother/sister scheming going on, etc. It was all just so rushed and with little drama.
