Sword in the Stone was a huge movie when I was a kid.

Don't know why considering I didn't remotely grow up during the period it was made.

But Sword in the Stone, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Poppins...they were all on equal footing. There wasn't much new stuff in the 80's...so everything was late 60's and early 70's stuff.

I think they had the animated books with the Sword and the Stone and of course the Fox and the Hound...

If you grew up anywhere from 1970-1985...

It was Poppins, Sword in the Stone, Fox and the Hound,, Escape to Witch Mountain, Bedknobs and Broom sticks, etc.

Phil Harris might be the greatest voice talent Disney animation ever had.

This is so true. There were essentially no Disney movies the entire decade. It wasn't until The very early 90s that they had their renaissance with Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Beaty and the Beast, etc.

Most 80s kids lived on 60s/70s Disney films. Ironically though, the 80s were probably the greatest decade ever for cartoons on tv.

Absolutely

Also these two are two of my absolute favorites. My 4 year old also loves these two over just about any other Disney movies.

Every town
Has its ups and downs
Sometimes the ups
Outnumber the downs
But not in Nottingham

I agree with the comment about 80's kids and these movies. Both were favorites of mine growing up. The kids like Robin Hood, but they didn't sit through Sword in the Stone the one time we tried watching it.

When I went to the Magic Kingdom for the first time in '83, the only characters I got pictures with were Prince John and Little John.

A good bit of the animation was recycled from previous Disney films, but the end result is still good.
