At his best AI was pretty damn legit. Too bad he is generally remembered for the other times.

Maybe it's the fact that he attempted 22 shots per game despite having a career field goal percentage of 42%? If Iverson was less of a ballhog and more efficient from the field, he would have gotten the credit that he deserved.

Is 42% bad for a guard? Seems like that would be a pretty good percentage considering most of the players with high fg percentages are big men. Not a big AI fan btw.

In my opinion, the team that Lebron took the finals was wayyyyy better than the team AI had.

his "practice" rant is idiotic. most people like hard workers willing to help the team and shite like that. "practice" went directly against that and regardless of how awesome it is, it's a good reason to think he's a lazy frick.

Did you even listen to what he was saying? I mean he might have missed one practice. And he played hard EVERY night, this is unarguable. How is that not the definition of being a hard worker? If you want to say he was selfish then I sort if get that even though I don't agree, but claiming he wasn't a hard worker is just foolish.

A 42% FG pct is awful. There are players in the NBA with better 3 point shooting percentages than that.

the 76ers won 6 more games than that Cavs team and was the #1 seed in the East

In an era where all the other top stars went through the motions for most of the season, AI played like it was game 7 of the NBA Finals every single night and brought an intensity to the floor rarely seen. Even so a lot people say they hated him when he was a player.

Because he didn't play team basketball but expected his teammates to be okay with him shooting the ball all the time.

I blame Pat Croce for empowering Iverson too much early in his career. He traded other scorers away so Iverson could be the main attraction.

AI was selfish. If you ever watched him live, he was most boring player to watch if his shot wasn't falling. He still wouldn't pass and the rest of the team would just be bystanders.

Also he was shitty on ball defender and the reason that team went to the Finals is because they were a great defense, yet he gets credit.

Having watched the whole career of AI and knowing a little bit about the game I qualify myself. Iverson was not some racehorse of energy and effort in a league full of slackers. Your thread is fricking dumb.

I give AI credit for sticking it out in Philly for 11 years, and not taking the easy way out like Lebron.

How so? That Sixers team had Dikembe Mutombo who was a Defensive Player of the Year and a future HOFer and Aaron McKie won Sixth man of the Year that season as well. They also had Larry Brown as their head coach. The Sixers actually had a winning record (6-5) in the games that Iverson didn't play in 2001. They were an excellent defensive team and probably could have still made the playoffs without Iverson. You can't say the same about Lebron's Cavs teams.

well you didn't. I did.

You used your perception that the 76ers relied heavily on AI's scoring due to necessity, I'm assuming due to lack of talent. I used Lebron as an example of a player that was on some teams generally perceived as lacking talent, yet strangely, he didnt jack up 27 shots a night and shoot 40% from the field.

AI didn't trust his teammates

Those sixers teams were actually pretty good considering how weak the east was at the time. They seem weak to the casual fan because they lacked flashy scorers (besides AI)...this was done on purpose. Basically, they had AI the one man offensive threat and then surrounded him by great fitting role players, unselfish defenders to be exact. It made for a good team considering the conference, but basically any volume scorer could have done similar with that team.

OK. You just made up that Allen Iverson was head and shoulders above his counterparts in term of effort exerted every night. That's bullshite. You made it up.

I should start a retarded thread about some madeup phenominon about a player like you did. Maybe this one:

In an era where all other centers where commiting offensive fouls and tear down backboards, Rick Smits was shooting fade aways and showing great touch. Even so a lot of people hated him as a player.

Was it because he was a goofy white Dutchman?

ETA- I unqualified you
