But no, it does not free up more money, it would have only saved Dan Gilbert in luxury tax, which Lebron does not care about.

Everyone needs to understand if they were able to get Tristan Thompson for $5mil a year cheaper, that does not free up $5mil a year to go sign someone else.

This is true. I guess the only way to avoid the situation they're in now is to avoid the deal all together. TT wasn't going to sign for a low enough number to avoid the luxury tax.

I think everyone does understand this... which, again, is why this disgruntlement is confusing from Lebron.

Exactly. They're in a position where they can't do anything, so what's Lebron bitching about?

Who cares? The point is that they can't make any moves. What else would Lebron like them to do?

We don't know, the report is fuzzy. We can guess or pretend we know, but we don't know.

But taking the report at face value, how is Lebron the one defensible in your eyes here?

Yea, that dude gave the "I don't hate Lebron" disclaimer on page 1 then quickly blew his cover with that comment.

Cavs are in hell right now with the salary cap. Lebron needs to shut up and play basketball. They should get J.R. back before the playoffs and are still the heavy favorites in the East.

Lebron wants to swap melo for love. Griffin and Gilbert say "nope". Lebron blows up to the media saying he needs a playmaker IE Melo. remember melo said he wasn't gonna waive his clause then a couple days later said "well if they wanna go another direction..." that was after Lebron told him yea mon we wanna bring you on this season for the playoff run.

Irving is the new Ray Allen now.

I'm not sure you can take it at face value. Lebron surely understands they can't just willy nilly add $20mil to their payroll, so I'm sure there's things going on that we just aren't privy to that he's upset about.

Yep that maybe it. It's going to be tough to pull that off as it won't be an even swap with Love and Melo. I think Cle will have to give up a good bit more than Love to make it happen.

He's pissed that they didn't pull the trigger on the Love for Carmelo deal. Lebron is a great athlete but sometimes he acts like a petulant child. The Cavs have done almost everything he has asked of them.

I'm really not so sure about this.

I think Melo makes about $3mil more than Love.

But again, the report says something about payroll spending. How can that be so and Melo also be the issue since getting Melo doesn't really change payroll spending?

Usually we disagree with you, but I think you're right on point with this. I'm thinking he trying to strong arm some deal for either Melo or even D Wade.

The bigger issue may be Korver.
quote:

Griffin was just as blunt and candid Wednesday as James was Monday. “It wouldn’t have been my preferred method,” Griffin said of James’ approach. “It certainly wasn’t appropriate from a teammate perspective. But it is what it is.”

The bigger issue at play here is the back-and-forth between James and Griffin since the Kyle Korver trade. Before the trade was even finalized, James said he wants a point guard and then a big (while conceding those are harder to find). Griffin countered by saying he doesn’t believe the Cavs need a big and the trade market doesn’t have what the Cavs need right now.

“I have no reaction,” James said of the trade talks. “We got 14 guys in here. We need to be ready every night, who we got in here, we gotta play. We can’t play fantasy basketball. We got who we got and we gotta go out and play.”

I think Melo has some clause in his contract where his cap value goes up 3-4 mill if he's traded.

I think the cavs overpaid for TT and he generally kinda sucks, however, he balled out in the finals. His defense and rebounding were a huge contribution to their series victory.
