Not like they can just go spend a ton of money to fill that spot. Only guys available outside of a trade would be decently cheap. Doubt that could be the issue.

They'd be cheap but Gilbert would be paying like 4x their salary in luxury tax I believe.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if it's because the Cavs didn't match on Delly and Mozgov. Mozgov was a decent regular season player, and Lebron seemed to love Delly.

That would explain his issue with spending this season. Maybe throw in the Melo thing, and that's just adding to his frustration, even though Melo wouldn't be adding salary to the team, but he just doesn't agree with not making that trade.

Seems plausible.

How in the world could they have afforded all of that?

Dan Gilbert is rich, very rich.

We can, of course, disagree on the talent levels of Delay and Mozgov, but according to the article, Gilbert agreed to spend unconditionally, so Lebron is operating under that assumption.

You at least gotta focus on Delly more than Mozgov, because ever since they traded for Frye, Mozgov's minutes began to decline.

Man, I shoulda read this article a lot earlier lol.

quote:

In addition to the open roster spot that could be used to sign a player, the Cavs have several trade exceptions -- including one for $4.8 million and one for $4.4 million -- that could be used to acquire players. The team also has the option to execute a player-for-player trade that could increase payroll.

Griffin said those options remain on the table, but he also made it clear he didn't feel the team needed to spend.
Maybe this is what Lebron is talking to in regards to not spending and being satisfied, as CLE has for now decided not to make a move with these bargaining chips.

Some of the commentators on NBA TV did allude to the possibly of the organization possibly growing satisfied now that they have a title.

Careful out on that limb of saying Lebron needs better plays to win after Lebron said the team needs better players to win!!!

Do you have a team of monkeys working around the clock helping you come up with digs, or do you just normally recycle 5 year old ones that have been used a million times on the MSB?

Either way, great take, can't wait to read the next one! You're adding so much insight to this thread, we're all so proud of you!!!

This couldn't be any funnier coming from a Kobe fan.

Fair point, as long as you're giving him the same credit for being the "GM" and winning a title last season.

Not sure I understand what you're saying here. I would imagine many front office personnel have debated and squabbled with ownership over how much money is being spent, this isn't any different. The only thing that's somewhat unique is that Cleveland already spends a shite ton more than the next highest franchise in the NBA

Bron tweeted out good luck in Milwaukee to Delly before the team even had a chance to match

If Blatt was still the coach, he'd be fired after this start.

It is but if it's true that Gilbert promised Lebron that he'd spend unconditionally, then Lebron probably has a legit beef, even if Cleveland has spent more than any other team.

Gilbert said he would spend and he is spending more than any other owner. Lebron has no right to expect any more than that. Lebron likes to be the GM but when he fails as GM, he takes no responsibility.

They've spent substantially more and will be getting hammered with luxury tax if they spend more. I read they're close to it going up $3.25/1 going forward. Fringe players won't make much of a difference anyway when rotations are shortened in the playoffs.
