8 straight gold gloves! Obviously known for his defense but is he a no brainier HOFer?

He's a career .284 hitter with 1,500+ hits

Seventeen men who played primarily as catchers have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame:

Johnny Bench
Yogi Berra
Roger Bresnahan
Roy Campanella
Gary Carter
Mickey Cochrane
Bill Dickey
Buck Ewing
Rick Ferrell
Carlton Fisk
Josh Gibson
Gabby Hartnett
Ernie Lombardi
Biz Mackey
Mike Piazza
Ray Schalk
Deacon White

Yadier Molina belongs on that list.

Catchers don't have to be great hitters... The position is more about defense, leadership, and managing pitchers.

Molina should be all a slam dunk Hall of Famer and will probably manage the Cardinals for a decade.

I'm not a fan of his at all but it's not even a question. To say it is, is being ridiculously biased IMO

Put the Cardinal hate away. He's 100% a Hall of Famer.

In 13 seasons he has as many season with a WAR of 3+ (4) as the great Andrelton Simmons has in 5 seasons.

So should brad ausmus get in under that train of thought? He was elite at all those things.

I wouldn't think so. I've never even considered him as being a potential member until this thread, which is sort of a shortcut test I use. He was a very good catcher, but he strikes me as a member of the hall of very good.

I find it interesting that Russell Martin has 500 fewer plate appearances and is a year younger than Molina but still has a higher career WAR than him. That might not be an indictment on Molina as much it shows how underrated Russell Martin has been throughout the years. The only weakness in Martin's game is his ability to hit for a high average. He's solid to superb in every other aspect of the game. He has a really good walk rate, has solid power, is absolutely superb defensively and was one of the best baserunning catchers the game has ever seen during his youth. You add all of those things up and Martin has probably been every bit the player Molina has been during his career.

The average HOF C WAR for a career is 52.7. Yadier is well short of that. That screams to me hall of very good.
