Could the drop in ratings be due to the multiple broadcast offerings? Weren't there like 15 different channels you could watch the game on?

100% Ohio state is the reason. You get big boy ratings with OSU down vote all you want but it's the sole reason

Taylor Twellman tried in vain to make this point on ESPN Voices last night, but everyone just laughed at the soccer guy and they cut to another commercial.

Game was way too late. I cut it of midway thru the third qtr. Couldn't keep my eyes open anymore and I consider myself a big college football fan. That means they didn't get many casual viewers.

Alabama is boring. They are too damn clinical and Nick Saban is the real life college football version of Grumpy Cat. He could get a blowjob from a supermodel and then yell at her afterwards about her technique.

And yes, I'm a bitter LSU grad.

That is part of it. I do not think they count bars and large gatherings either.

That is why the Semis were down also.

Same amount of people are watching the games, just doing it in non Nielson rating ways.

Regional divides matter. tOSU/Oregon interested the Midwest and Pacific. Bama/Clemson just interested the South.

Not to mention that Ohio has more people than both South Carolina and Alabama.

Ratings were bad across the board this year. ESPN has a problem, and it isn't just the teams in the game.

I doubt it, theres always people at bars or large gatherings. That wasn't exclusive to this game.

Today I learned Watch ESPN, Bars, and Streaming apps were all invented after the OSU/Oregon championship game.

Also the kick off time was 2 hours later than Last years or something.

This. With kids, staying up past 10:30 is a chore that I immediately regret the next day. I was out in the 3rd qtr.

That's because it was mixed in with 387 other non-sensical points while talking at the same time as Beadle

For whatever reason, the game isn't getting the media hype you'd expect. Same thing last year... although being the first year it benefitted from that.

There just wasn't a buzz this year like you'd expect.

Also, the super bowl and this game should both be on Saturdays... but I suspect MADD has lobbied hard against that.
