Me, personally, when it comes to critiquing college or pro athletes, I'll usually pay attention more to someone who was at least a college or pro athletes themselves over someone like Bill Simmons who probably couldn't make high school varsity for anything.
I agree. Popovich and Belichick are both hacks.

They're novices compared to visionary ex-players like Byron Scott who think shooting 3s won't win you championships.

Popovich

He attended Merrillville High School and graduated in 1970 from the United States Air Force Academy. He played basketball for four seasons at the Academy and in his senior year was the team captain and the leading scorer.

Belichick

Belichick subsequently attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where he played center and tight end. In addition to being a member of the football team, he played lacrosse and squash, serving as the captain of the lacrosse team during his senior season.
Both were at least college athletes and earned further cred by working up as coaches.
Simmons? Was probably just some frat douche.

How can you listen to ex-athletes in the media and have this stance? It's mind boggling. Jalen rose or Zach Lowe? Who ya got?

True. I have never seen a NBA player miss a shot from there.

So being a sports writer/analyst requires 2 skills
1)Knowledge of the sport
2) Ability to eloquently convey said knowledge
Why, to you, is 1 the only criteria and playing sports they only way to gain it? You dont say Golic shouldnt be on radio because he doesnt have a broadcast journalism degree.
Essentially youre a moron. Thats all im really trying to say.

Simmons reps the fan perspective. Always has, he has never portrayed himself as anything else but a very knowledgeable NBA fan

Ex-athletes are almost uniformly the worst commentators, all they do largely is talk in cliches "you gotta give 110%" to avoid offending friends.
