Shall we make sure that the QB gets warm milk before bed every night as well? Maybe we could have therapists on the sidelines for them too?

If these rules were in place a few years ago Romo would still be alive.

And he's still be watching defenders going for a pick 6 on 1/2 of his throws.

No. No it's not.

Hell, Jeff Hostetler won Suber Bowl when Phil Simms got hurt. In Miami's undefeated season, didn't the backup play in most of the games.

That would be Earl Morrall.

The amazing thing I constantly laugh about is how 99% of the football world uses the shotgun thinking that it protects the QB. It doesn't. All it does is make it a much easier straight line angle for edge rushers to get to the QB. In fact, it makes it much more difficult for OTs to get out to cut them off and more susceptible to inside moves.

frick Aaron Rodgers ! He gets all the pussy when he is throwing TD's. Why is he a pussy when a defender chases after him ? Bullshite

He is a pussy that stands to make more money riding the bench next month than you’ll make in the next ten years.

For that reason I don’t think anybody really feels sorry for the guy.

It’s just unfortunate for his team and his fans that he’s done for the year due to a preventable injury.

Fear of getting hit and/or injured is a part of the game... taking that way from the qb position drastically changes the way the game is played.

It sucks, but there have to be repricusions for a team that either A) allows their qb to be hit bc their OL is shitty/ can’t pick up a blitz... or B) a qb who opens themselves up to being hit.

It's a terrible discussion and contributes to the continual downward spiral of American Football.

Are we talking about the same Aaron Rodgers?

The NFL is a violent league. Injuries are part of it. That shouldn't change based off of one hit.

This obsession with protecting star QB's is driven by fantasy football shite.

The entire game of football rigging the whole rule book to protect and promote the QB and the passing game is disgusting.

It just needs to be accepted. They are trying to protect their money but every player knows the risks at this point

The horse collar rule is a direct result of Roy Williams injuring TO. If it had been Todd Pinkston the rule never gets created

It better not.

The NFL is fake. Come on friends. Y'all like some fake/wrestling football.

Are we really going to make a rule for this?

SBWM I need your opinion. I'm not in any way shape or for coming at you or being sarcastic.

Qbs dont want to be hit?

Then they need to get rid of it quickly. Rodgers was extending the play rolling out.

The quarterback should have a flag that the defender has to pull.

There was nothing dirty about the hit. It was a normal hit in a situation where any defender would have tried to hit the QB. Rodgers just landed poorly. End of story

I don't know what's worse this proposed rule change or the fact third party people like this author defend it. Makes me cringe.

It's football. You can only tweak rules so much before you totally alter sport.

This.

treat quarterbacks like kickers and punters: Basically, you can’t hit them at all once they’ve thrown a pass.

This isn't even accurate. Punters aren't protected if they leave the pocket. Rodgers was outside of the pocket.

Not really

You know this makes no sense, right? Unless there is a high level $20 million per year QB sitting on the street right now. It's not about money or investment in a single player. It's about the best player in the NFL getting injured on a hit that didn't need to happen. Like it or not, the QBs are the centerpiece to every team, and they're looking to keep as many of them as possible on the field.

Your view is skewed because of this

quote:

As a football fan, hard hits are part of the game. Injuries happen and are a part of the game. Rodgers knew that. And, he knew i when he decided to expose himself throwing the ball in the face of the rush.

If staying on the field as a QB is paramount, QBs need to make more decisions to preserve their health. When they decide to throw in the face of a rush, they had decided to take on the risk of that action.

You are considering change. The change you should be considering is training Rodgers to make better choices. Just like QBs learned to slide, maybe they need to learn to eat the ball rather than convert a 3rd down once in a while. It would be better for them, better for the team, and better for the NFL.

Personally, I think it's fine the way it is. Injuries happen, and I'm fine with dealing with a top player being out for the year.
