But is it worth it if you're protecting your QB? We all complain when we get matchups like the texans v raider playoff game last year. And I'm just playing devils advocate here.

the competitive advantage an even somewhat mobile QB would have in this system is retarded. just run and pump fake a bunch and no defender can do shite

Why dont QB's just bulk up and adapt themselves rather than have the game changed for their benefit.

Complete bullshite the QB is not ever blamed for being the soft pansy most are.

Goodness.

Had Rogers himself commented on the hit yet?

I feel like he's the type of guy to say it was legal and just unlucky, rather that complain and moan.

They keep trying to make more rules to bail out QBs when they frick up, its stupid, if u dont wanna get hit hard, get rid of the ball rather than running around in the pocket with it forever

It would be impossible to defend a QB if you couldn't touch him once the ball was out of his hands. They would no longer fear getting hit b/c defensive players would be forced to start pulling up the moment the QB's arm cocked.

Ah first Peyton Manning rule - Colts complaining that the Pats roughed up their receivers in the playoffs.

Then the Brady rule, can't hit low.

Then the Brees rules - can't hit in the chest.

Can't hit low and can't hit high.

Why not just put QBs in a cage where they can't be touched...or resurrect the Halo Rule from CFB...have to keep a 1 yard distance from the QB?

I remember when Montana got knocked out of the playoffs by Lawrence Taylor as the Niners were looking to repeat...and Montana was the best QB in the game.

And nobody ever ever ever started calling for rules changes.

Now if the best QBs get injured. OMG! We need to drastically change the game forever.

If that was the hit that hirt him and they change a rule then they are just hurting their product. He just fell on him. It wasn’t malicious or he didn’t spear him. Just a normal play and it resulted in an injury.

That’s not the play from Sunday dude. Come on. They were playing the Vikings. That clip is from years ago.

It's an interesting discussion to have
actually it's not

so they changed the rules on defense throw in all the stuff ostensibly meant to curb concussions and you have teams throwing all over defenses which has made the qb position even more important than it already was. so if your high dollar qb goes down, your team is fricked.

so to fix this they're basically advocating putting a red jersey on the qb because right now you can't touch them above the shoulders or below the waist. legal hits are still flagged and unless you hit the qb with the ball in his hands it's roughing (4 years ago the saints hit newton with the ball still in his hands forcing a wobbly pass and they still called roughing)...you can't drive the qb into the ground you can't high/low them...

the real fix should be getting rid of defensive holding making offenses more balanced and qbs less valuable (they'd still be the most valued position) but since the NFL is run by complete retards who don't even understand why people like their product or even know who likes their product, they'll probably make more rules protecting qbs further hurting the already damaged product...

pathetic.

That type of hit is on the fringe of the rules, but it is legal. There's little opportunity to get a clean hit on a QB. This was one of them. No one wants to see an injury, but that's the risk a QB takes to stand in the pocket or roll out to buy time to make a play.

Rodgers lives within the rules. He's great at catching the defense in a substitution with too many men on the field. He's great at scrambling and sliding. If memory serves he has a good hard count. All legal, from which he derives a benefit.

So the defense played within the rules. Rodgers got hurt. It happens.

I think you're missing the point of the thread.

Football has been a brutal sport since it was created. Most people don't want the brutality of football removed. If you chose to play the game, you expected to be a part of the brutality.

I played football through high school and have been a hardcore football fan since I knew what football was. Over the past ten years or so, that level of being a fan has waned. Watching football today isn't nearly as enjoyable as it used to be.

In actuality, they would start to pull up when it leaves his hand. Would you still have some contact after release? Absolutely. Would it be a glancing blow and a QB getting knocked down, as opposed to the guy fully driving him into the ground? Definitely. And that would be the point.

Of course, I'm #bitterpackerfan

I don't think he is

injuries happen. it sucks for the fans, but 15 years ago it wasn't the end of your season. they need to make the game more balanced which I also suspect would reduce injuries since wide receivers seems to be the most concussion prone position on the field
