Because we were going to keep it anyway?
Now you're still terrible, with zero chance to keep the pick.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind Young off the Mavs bench. No way could we absorb his contract and get Lin, but we need a 6th man

Lakers definitely had a bottom 3 roster before adding hibbert and bass.

David West
Gerald Green
Thornton
Corey Joseph
Alan Anderson
All guys looking for a home.
I'd like to see West come back to NOLA and back up Davis(unload Anderson) because of nostalgia.
For him, depending if he's willing to come off the bench, Atlanta, the Clipps (although they have more pressing needs), OKC, Spurs (for far less) or Houston would be interesting.

Plus, as this year showed, you dont have to be in the bottom 3 to get a top 3 pick.
Would be one thing if they were signing building block pieces that will be there into the future, but they're adding older rentals that MIGHT get them from 21 wins to 30 and ensure they lose the pick.

@WojYahooNBA: Restricted free agent guard Reggie Jackson has agreed to a five-year, $80M extension with the Detroit Pistons, league sources tell Yahoo.
Curious if he drew interest from anyone else.

The Lakers are going to be better, if not much better if healthy. This team due to injuries last year, in effect, added:
1. Kobe
2. Randle
3. Russell
4. Nance Jr
5. Hibbert
6. Johnson (or Justin Anderson pending)
7. Brandon Bass
8. Upshaw
9. Lou Williams
While keeping Clarkson.
Due to injuries last year (Kobe played with a torn shoulder until he was out for the season for instance) last year's Laker team will look nothing like this team. If this young talent pans out they'll be a dark horse with huge cap room next year as well.
PG: Russell/Clarkson
SG: Bryant/Williams
SF: Nance Jr./Johnson
PF: Randle/Bass
C: Hibbert/Upshaw/Black
It's a totally different team

No one was going to tie up money for three days when it was inevitable the Pistons would match.

You are correct about this being a completely different team. If the Lakers can move Swaggy and Sacre, I'm pretty sure Kobe will be the only player remaining from the 2013 team.
Nance isn't starting though. I'm pretty sure Scott already said Kobe is playing the 3 this year with D'angelo and Clarkson in the backcourt. I highly doubt Mitch is finished in free agency or he wouldn't be trying to move all these contracts around in sign and trades.

Hate to tell you Shultz, but looks like neither of us are getting Joseph:

That's even better then - I was assuming Kobe would be at the 2. If Kobe shifts to the 3 that allows more talent and speed on the court at one time.

I actually like Lin because he's a really good pick and roll player which will be great for Deandre. He also fits our current theme of terrible defense.

There is something seriously wrong with the max contract idea when guys like Reggie Jackson are approaching it.

Nobody else on that roster changes win totals next year. Kobe's done and rookies don't win games
