No offense taken and yes, with the tremendous growth what you describe has somewhat occurred but the neighborhood infrastructure and schools to support are exceptional. I prefer Fort Worth over Dallas but both have beautiful, established areas.

If you have kids or plan on having kids, go and don't look back just based on education savings alone. Otherwise, it depends on your preferences and just how significant 30k is to you. My husband and I would be miserable in Dallas, and there is no way 30k would sway us to leave. As flawed as Nola is, we love the lifestyle we currently live. For others, Dallas would be a no brainer safe choice.

Sorry I should have explained better earlier.

My wife is 33 and I am 35. We live 30 minutes west of Nola and truth be told I hate it here, but my wife is not the "change" type. This would be for a promotion for her and I would have to look for new job (law enforcement).

We have 16 and 14 year old kids who will both be in high school this year.

What is the real cost of living in outskirts of DFW like car-home insurance and stuff like that. We are looking at Frisco.

Scariest thing is regreting leaving and regreting not leaving if that makes sense. We will have noone for a while.

Is the job offer in Dallas stable and reliable? I know people who have been swayed by salary increases at startups that end up going bust.

Car insurance is much cheaper.

Home insurance is cheaper here than New Orleans for obvious reasons. Not sure how tornado and other inclement weather will affect a Dallas quote.

Have you asked your kids if their opinion on it? Not saying you should do whatever they want but I would just get their thoughts on if they would be ok moving to a new school

We left Louisiana in 2009. Been in Dallas since 2012. Our careers have grown more than we could imagine. Louisiana will always be my home, but there just are limited opportunities there.

We work downtown and live in Lake Highlands.

Agree with the business side of the argument as Dallas and cities like that are 10X the opportunity NO can offer. Add in the crime and for most here as already stated it's a no brained!

BUT for those who are more established and love a city with true culture NO is the place. On top of that growing up in South La I am an avid salt water fisherman and being land locked not an option for me. I have worked all over Texas and while the big cities are impressive the lack of any culture plus the endless traffic make me happy I stayed put.

Hard to love LaPlace.

Is moving closer to NOLA an option? If not, take the money and go to Dallas.

Ah I thought it was a different company for some reason. Sounds like a no brainer on paper.

You can pro/con list this decision in a sheet of paper and the decision will favor Dallas all day every day.

Are the kids supportive of the move? Education alone will either be better, cheaper, or both in Dallas. It's quite literally becoming one of the best cities in America in rapid fashion.
