Those are two pretty big reasons.

I'm not a big fan of uprooting and realize DFW is better quality of life, but the thought of starting over somewhere else is scary. Although I know its done all the time.

Here's the thing I see when people talk like this. They act like its a permanent life move. You brought kids into the world. THATS a scary life long commitment. Moving one state over for more money and better quality of life? Pft. Thats nothing. Whats the worst case? You move, stay there for a couple years, don't like it and move back.

Sums up Dallas. Flat, natureless, and nothing really "cool". But it is generally safe, the schools are great, and the opportunity is great.

If you can live somewhere along the Central Expressway (Highland Park, Richardson, Plano), do that.

Dallas is easy living. That's what it offers which is a rarity.

No doubt that the scenery and geography could be better.

Agreed. It isn't sexy, but it is safe and secure for a family looking to do well in life.

Plus, if you like traveling, having DFW and Love Field nearby is awesome.

I'm typically a NOLA defender, but this is such BS

I'm in Orleans Parish at least 6 days a week, nights to. I often work until 10, 11 pm at night and walk to my car.

Never, ever, have I felt unsafe.

In fact, there has only been two times in my life where I felt unsafe. Both of them were at gas stations at night near Hobby Airport.

As many have said, the money and opportunity are higher in Texas. No one is doubting that. But I don't see the need for people to crap all over NOLA with made up / exaggerated things, while the people doing said crapping are doing so from hundreds of miles away.

This isn't the OT... we are supposed to be better on this board.

If you want more money money, go to Dallas. If you will take less money but you want to be closer to family (assuming your family lives near NOLA) stay here. You can have a very nice life here.

Its because you are from there and its familiar. I'm from a shithole town full of crime and i have friends that come with me there and they are freaking out at places it never crossed my mind.

I lived on the Wank and graduated from WJ back in 2004.

I am not necessarily bashing NOLA but if you are going to sit here and try to convince other folks that the quality of life is better than DFW, you are doing a disservice to the OP.

DFW has better schools
DFW has better jobs
DFW has better urban/suburb neighborhoods
DFW has essentially walled off its "cultcha"
DFW is better for long term wealth gain
Texas in general has its shite together
DFW has better roads and transit systems with always ongoing improvements

So in terms of schools, jobs, and infrastructure DFW blows NOLA out of the water.

To refute that is pure bias

I lived on the Westbank for 18 years and was in and around NOLA for that amount of time as well.

You sound like my folks who are still in denial that me and my brother left the city as soon as we could.

Yeah but NOLA has Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. Those alone are worth foregoing a substantial promotion and the higher income that comes with it.
