Thats an awesome haul but this is what I would've done:

Bought overstock GCs at raise/gcz for 9% off with a 1x UR card (1.5x if you have FU). Then click through TCB for 5% cashback when buying the item.

I would have $488 in cash. 3,200 UR (4,800 with FU). But hey, 31,000 are way more fun to use. ETA: BA portal is at 7 avios / $. Although I'd still choose 5% cb over that.

Using Chase Freedom Unlimited to buy overstock.com GCs on Mileage Plus X app. The Mileage Plus X app has overstock at 5x United points. So that's 1.5x Chase UR via FU, 5x United via the app. Also, since I have a United CC, I get a 25% bonus on that 5x. Then I'll log into Chase portal which overstock is 2x UR points. Put thing in cart, use GCs to complete purchase.

Multi-level chess right there.

I bought a room a/c the other day from Walmarks after price matching to Best Buy that had the item for $25 cheaper. Then bought a $500 Walmarks gift card from cardcash with the INk+ (5x) and used topcashback for another 8% cash back.

My wife said she is too afraid to buy anything now because I'll find out she didn't get points or cash back. That's a big win in my book.

appreciate the tip. I somewhat got into those cash back sites but the target seemed to always be moving. That is a nice alternative with the cash though. I'll have to explore that.

I'm just not a huge fan of them. I've never been able to leverage Avios for things I've wanted to do unfortunately.

I'm a sucker for the points, though I think you could easily value them between $600 to $1000 if redeeming for biz class as I plan to do.

Something similar happens with us. Let's be honest, it is kind of a PITA, but it is funny and frustrating when my wife cuts me off.

"I bought such and such"

"Did you check..."

"YES!"

"Oh ok"

Yep. Nice haul. House renovations are truly one of the most over looked gold mines. Ive cleaned up on fencing, appliances, blinds etc. Over the years.

I have to pull my self back in when it comes to the portals and such at times. My wife understands the game and is spoiled to it, but still she has a limit on how much she is willing to put up with.

Ya, I've messed with CX and 2x biz looks pretty easy but 1st looks like a PITA.

I've found a few here and there and very well could end up on JAL from TYO to ORD or something, but the goal is to try CX.

Also, with how cheap economy class is to anywhere on the planet, there is no excuse to not be able to purchase tickets outright, let alone with cashback, making economy redemption less rewarding to the non-MSing types.

Yea, it's crazy the amount of low fare specials in economy I see these days. Feels like there are constantly specials going on. I see little value in points redemption for it now more than ever.

Lemme get those extra points on the stuff you were going to buy any way!

The Bride gets it now. I showed her the Hawaii trip we are taking soon....... all paid with points........ and she said...I'm NOT BUYING NOTHING WITHOUT YOU GIVING ME THE OK!

I got the recommendation from one of you regulars on the Ink +. It fit our spending. Even with the admonishments to "go read" This thread delivers. Thanks to all who regularly contribute!

I have usual spend that max's out the INK+ office spending and with the CSR Im just stacking them up. And burning them when I can

Use Avios to fly on Iberia to Europe. Fly through Madrid and you avoid fuel surcharges AND they have a lower redemption in miles than other airlines.

No I never got to bringing it to the final stage. Got way too busy with my CPA tests. Just took the last one though and I am planning on using my free time now to develop that.

Does anyone have a good idea for redeeming KrisFlyer? They de-valued earlier this year.

Was planning on a suites saver from JFK-FRA next year for 76k as I will be spending three weeks in Europe, but they have very minimal award seats on that leg so I'm not sure I will be able to snag one. I have about 45k KrisFlyer to which I transferred my MR when closing an Amex, specifically for the JFK-FRA suite which was only 57.5k at the time. They are a 1:1 with Star Alliance and I have nearly 500k UR.

There's an 80 page thread on FlyerTalk saying you need to book within hours to not end up on the waitlist and I don't want to transfer 30k and not get an award seat and lose the UR. I'd rather let them expire and book on a United partner than take the risk. I don't think it was a problem before the devaluation but we decided to go in the Fall and not Spring.

If I could find something to or within Europe I'd be interested. Won't be able to take advantage of anything West Coast or Tokyo. Dates are flexible - around this time next year.

IAH-MAN route in Biz is good value (65K one way). But thats the only other route that SQ flies on its own metal. Apart from that, you can use SQ miles on any other Star Alliance airline. But why would you do that if you are only trying to go to Europe when United (also a UR partner) has better rates? Except for flying F, you are better off using UA miles to Europe. On F, the only options you have will incur very high fuel surcharges (Lufthansa), though a top product.

One great use of SQ miles are Econ/Biz to Hawaii for 35K/60K RT respectively on UA operated flights.

IAH-MAN would be an option. I could use 20k UR and the KrisFlyer for a business ticket.

I searched a few different routes but their award website is terrible.

How do I do this? Where can I find the award availability and how do I redeem the KrisFlyer on a partner?

Apart from SQ F, everything else will show on united.com. Any award that you see available at the saver level on united's website, will be available to book with SQ miles (make sure you don't log in to your UA account btw). SQ won't show anything apart from SQ metal. Once you have a route picked, you'd have to call in and have the agents book the flight for you. Very painless and agents are very knowledgeable and friendly. Just rememeber - if you want to buy tix for someone else you first need to set them up on your krisflyer account. Again, painless process.

A couple of other good options: 25K RT to STT and SJU. 35K to anywhere in the Carribbean. You can also add a free stopover and an open jaw on a round trip ticket when booking SQ awards.

If you live in MSY and getting to Europe is what you are looking to do: I'd fly MSY-LHR direct for 32,500 Avios (UR partner) + $412 round trip.

Thanks for the info.

So just to be clear am I calling the SQ agents and telling them I want flight UA whatever. And that will work for any star alliance operated flight? Even domestic?

Yes to all of the above.

12.5K one way domestic on UA or AC flights to Cont 48 + Canada.

I've been putting Europe on the backburner due to its proximity.

Since I don't have kids yet, it behooves me to go further now and do Europe more extensively in the future.

But ya, hopefully the Iberia option or similar is still there sometime in the soupy future.

We're flying Iberia next year. JFK to Madrid. 3-5 days in Madrid and then on to Italy for 2-3 weeks.

That'll be a nice one.

I have a feeling Europe will be on the table come 2019/2020.

I'm squeezing in a twofer for 2018
